Go to Neye Gae, and return the wise one's rag! If you don't, then the wise one will vomit blood and die, such a thing will happen, say this! The Venerable Ananda, having heard the Blessed One's words, said, "Venerable, as you say." Then he went to the place where Neye Gae was. Neye Gae saw the Venerable Ananda coming from afar, and thought: This fellow has brought the wise one's messenger, he will snatch my rag. Then, the Venerable Ananda said these words to Neye Gae: The Blessed One has instructed: Return the wise one's rag! If you do not quickly return his rag, then the wise one will vomit blood and die, such a thing will happen. Neye Gae said: Venerable Ananda, it is enough to hear the teacher's teachings. Otherwise, this naked fellow vomiting blood and dying, if all the wise ones were to fill the entire Jambudvipa, like a sugarcane forest, a reed forest, or a rush forest, and they all vomited blood and died, not even a hair of Neye Gae would be moved. But, go, and I will give it to you. After the Venerable Ananda left, Neye Gae said: Hey, naked one, listen! That false teacher of yours lied, deceived the world, and caused beings to be born in hell. His tongue is plowed by five hundred plows. You are even more false than him, your tongue will be plowed by a thousand plows. Furthermore, if I use your rag, would I also use your rag? Venerable Neye Gae is not like that. Neye Gae wiped all the lower parts with that rag, then folded it into four layers, placed it on his left hand, and slapped it with his right hand, all the dirt fell off, and then he said: Wise one, stretch out your hands! The man stretched out his hands, and Neye Gae, with a force that would make him fall face down, placed the rag in his hand, and the man fell face down.

Having knocked him down, he kicked him with his feet and said: Naked heretic, bald one, go away without entering the monastery without permission! Monk Nye-ga, if you don't die, don't come to Jeta Grove again. This is just something that happened temporarily. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, does not temporarily establish the basis of training for the Shravakas in order to subdue them. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in Jeta Grove in Shravasti or in Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, the six monks were behaving improperly, doing all sorts of things: they were constantly gathering, extremely gathering, lending, charging interest, saying they had done what they had done, saying they had not done what they had done, and saying they had not done what they had not done. What is meant by constantly gathering? It means constantly writing, searching for land, making carts, preparing items to go to the countryside, and searching for scribes, grains, ink, pens, and so on. This is called constantly gathering. What is meant by extremely gathering? It means searching for witnesses, grains, ink, pens, and scribes for the sake of eight parts interest, ten parts interest, and twelve parts interest. This is called extremely gathering. What is meant by lending? It means giving away barley and old grains, gold dust, and neighboring villages, and searching for measuring vessels, small bushels, bushels, grains, ink, pens, and scribes. This is called lending. What is meant by charging interest? It means giving away a collection of jewels for a collection of conch shells, giving away a collection of pearls for a collection of jewels, and giving away a collection of beryl for a collection of pearls, and searching for witnesses, grains, ink, pens, and scribes. This is called charging interest. What is meant by giving away what has been done for what has been done? It means giving away gold for gold, this is called giving away what has been done for what has been done. What is meant by giving away what has been done for what has not been done? It means gold.

Because it is not an appearance, it abandons the appearance; because it has not done so, it abandons what has been done. Because it has not done so, it abandons what has not been done. If asked: How does it abandon what has not been done because it has not done so? Because gold is not an appearance, it abandons the non-appearance; because it has not done so, it abandons what has not been done. Other heretics and knowledgeable people say: The Shakyas' renunciates have not reversed, have not abandoned, and have not abandoned separately. Like this, those with appearances engage in various behaviors, completely combining, thoroughly combining, lending money, collecting interest, abandoning what has been done for the sake of what has been done, abandoning what has not been done for the sake of what has been done, abandoning what has been done for the sake of what has not been done, and abandoning what has not been done for the sake of what has not been done. Brahmins and householders also engage in various behaviors as those with appearances, completely combining, thoroughly combining, lending money, collecting interest, abandoning what has been done for the sake of what has been done, abandoning what has not been done for the sake of what has been done, abandoning what has been done for the sake of what has not been done, and abandoning what has not been done for the sake of what has not been done, then what is the difference between the knowledgeable, the Shakyas' renunciates, and the Brahmins and householders? What is the thought? What is the different behavior? Who would be displeased with these bald-headed renunciates begging for alms, and slander them, give them scraps, and speak harshly? At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, because of this event, this topic, and this reason, the Blessed One convened the monastic community of monks, etc., as before. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, knowingly cultivate, etc., as before. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked the group of six monks: Monks, is it true that you engage in various behaviors as those with appearances? Venerable, it is true. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked them, saying: This is not the conduct of a renunciate, it is not in accordance, it is not appropriate, it is not in accordance with the rules, this is not something that a renunciate should do.
