Tenth, showing the abandonment of slander. Tenth, showing the abandonment of slander. Vinaya-vibhaṅga, thirty-first volume. The Blessed One Buddha was staying in the Kalanda place of the Light Garden in the city of Rājagṛha. Nanda had the thought: All of these are restrained by the householder Anāthapiṇḍika with the foundations of learning, and in the end, they cannot even ask anyone for a small piece of torn cloth. It would be better if I went to the Brahmin Summer Protector, who is learning the letters of the alphabet in the writing class with me, and see if I can get something from him. So he went to that person's house, and the doorkeeper stopped him, saying: Venerable, please do not enter. Nanda said: Good-faced Blessed One has said that there are five places that we should not go to, namely: the house of a musician, the house of a prostitute, the tavern, the royal palace, and the house of an outcast. Is this the house of a musician? Is it the house of a prostitute? Is it the tavern? Is it the royal palace? Is it the place of an outcast? Venerable, you have said many reproaches, this is not the house of a musician, nor is it the house of a prostitute, nor is it the tavern, nor is it the royal palace, nor is it the place of an outcast, but it is the dwelling of the Brahmin Summer Protector. Go and inform the master, saying that the wise Nanda wants to see the Brahmin Summer Protector and is waiting at the door. The doorkeeper said: Do you think you have the jewel of King Rūpakāya? Miser, if you inform, then inform, if you do not inform, I will give you a great punishment. The doorkeeper thought: This person is so fearless and impolite in saying these words, if I do not inform, I am afraid it will cause harm, I should go and inform. So he went there and said: Master, the venerable Nanda wants to see the master and is waiting at the gate. Summer Protector said: Who is stopping the venerable Nanda? Let the venerable Nanda enter. When Nanda entered, Summer Protector said: Venerable Nanda has come, it is good! It is good! Venerable Nanda, please sit on the seat that has been prepared. Nanda sat in front of him.

There, with a loud voice, a pleasing voice, and a deep voice, he began to praise the act of giving. When Nede rejoiced and praised the act of giving from a joyful heart, the Brahmins and faithful householders thought, "Alas, even our own flesh should be cut and given away!" The Brahmin Summer Cult said, "Venerable Nede, I offer you sixty Karshapanas for the summer retreat." Aroka, may this giving grant you the adornment of the mind, the equipment of the mind, the collection of yoga, the attainment of the highest meaning, and the enjoyment of gods and humans. Having said this, he departed. Two monks from Shravasti came to Rajagriha to prostrate at the feet of the Blessed One. The Blessed One also spoke to the venerable Ananda, saying, "Ananda, go and tell the monks that the Thus-Gone One will travel to Kosala. Whoever among you is willing to travel to Kosala with the Thus-Gone One should do the work of the monastic robe." Having heard this from the Blessed One, the venerable Ananda said to the monks, "Venerable ones, the Blessed One will travel to Kosala. Whoever among you is willing to travel to Kosala with the Thus-Gone One should do the work of the monastic robe." Having heard the words of the venerable Ananda, the monks said to the venerable Ananda, "As the venerable one commands." Having heard this, the two monks who had come from Shravasti thought, "We must also go to Shravasti," and became unhappy. Having heard this, Nede became afraid, thinking, "The things I have obtained within a hundred leagues are now obstructed." So he went to the Brahmin Summer Cult and began to praise the act of giving with a low voice, an unpleasant voice, and a dejected voice. The Summer Cult said, "Venerable Nede, you used to praise the act of giving with a loud voice, a pleasing voice, and a deep voice, but now you give with a low voice, an unpleasant voice, and an unprofound voice.

What is the reason for praising you? Young companions, even if we meet on the road a hundred leagues away, we will soon be separated. The Magadha people speak circuitously, the Kosala people understand after speaking, the Panchala people speak halfway, and the Western people do not understand even if they speak. Because of this, the summer thought: This person abandoned such a large Shakya clan and became a monk, he will not be sad because of separation from me, but will be sad because he lost sixty Karshapanas. So he said: Venerable Near Joy, wherever you live, I will send sixty Karshapanas. Aroga, if that is the case, then give alms that are useless and without defilements, and do good deeds and accumulate merit. After saying this, he got up from his seat and left. Then, the Blessed One was tamed, and his retinue was also tamed; peaceful, and his retinue was also peaceful; liberated, and his retinue was also liberated; departed, and his retinue was also departed; subdued, and his retinue was also subdued; Arhat, and his retinue was also Arhat; free from desire, and his retinue was also free from desire; beautiful, and his retinue was also beautiful; Like a bull king surrounded by a herd of cows, Like an elephant king surrounded by a herd of baby elephants, Like a lion surrounded by a group of fanged creatures, Like a goose king surrounded by a flock of geese, Like a garuda surrounded by a flock of birds, Like a Brahmin surrounded by a group of students, Like a famous doctor surrounded by patients, Like a hero surrounded by an army, Like a surveyor surrounded by people on the road, Like a helmsman surrounded by merchants, Like a caravan leader surrounded by attendants, Like a king of a castle surrounded by ministers, Like a Chakravartin surrounded by a thousand sons, Like the moon surrounded by stars, Like the sun surrounded by a thousand rays of light, Like Dhritarashtra surrounded by Gandharvas, Like a noble being surrounded by beggars
