Charkal was injured. Is it true that you, Charka, made that unsightly one into a Tābu? Venerable one, no! The Buddha, the Bhagavan, criticized, saying that what is not the conduct of a mendicant, what is not in accordance, what is not proper, what is not in accordance with the rule, is not distinguished by the ordained. Then, after the Bhagavan had criticized in various ways, he spoke to the monks, saying: "Monks, therefore, seeing the ten benefits perfectly, the basis of training for the hearers should be established in the Vinaya," and so on, as before. This is how the basis of training in the Vinaya should be recited by my hearers. Again, any monk who sits on a seat where it is possible to engage in desire in the presence of a woman, alone, secluded, and with protection, and if a female lay follower endowed with words of faith speaks of any of the three defeated dharmas, or the Sangha residue, or the expiatory dharmas, and the monk agrees to sit, then any of the three defeated dharmas, or the Sangha residue, or the expiatory dharmas, will cause him to act. And if that monk is caused to act by a female lay follower endowed with words of faith, by whatever dharma she speaks of, then that dharma will cause that monk to act, and that is an indefinite dharma. Again, "any monk" means Charka or anyone else like that. "In the presence of a woman" means a woman or a young girl who is able to rely on the dharma arising from unchaste conduct. "Together" means together with her. "Alone" means just that. "Secluded" means where there are no women, men, or eunuchs. "With protection" means protected by five things: protected by a wall, protected by a screen, protected by a curtain, protected by a thicket, and protected by a sign. "Where it is possible to engage in desire" means where it is possible to engage in unchaste conduct. "On a seat" means on a base. "Sits" means placing the buttocks within a cubit. "If a female lay follower endowed with words of faith" means...

What is called trusting in action is having complete faith in the Buddha, having complete faith in the Dharma and the Sangha, taking refuge in the Buddha, taking refuge in the Dharma and the Sangha, becoming one with the Buddha, becoming one with the Dharma and the Sangha, having no hesitation or doubt about the Buddha, and having no hesitation or doubt about the Dharma and the Sangha, suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path, having seen the truth, attained the fruit, possessed realization, and being unable to knowingly speak a lie even for one's own life. What is called the three dharmas, three refers to a number. What is called defeat, sanghavasesa, or any offense to be confessed, defeat refers to any of the four offenses. Sanghavasesa refers to any of the thirteen offenses. Offense to be confessed refers to any of the ninety offenses. Thus, a female lay follower who possesses words of faith is not skilled in offenses, not skilled in the basis of offenses, and not skilled in instigating offenses. Therefore, she sees a bhikkhuni speaking of superhuman dharmas, or touching the body with a woman 's place on the same seat, or eating in the same container, or drinking various intoxicating drinks in the same cup, or digging the ground, or cutting green grass, or eating at the wrong time, or any other offense related to nature, she allows to do those she has allowed. Allowing to do means to make her do it. What is called that is the certain dharma means that it is the undifferentiated dharma. So how does it become an offense? If a bhikkhu allows a female lay follower who possesses words of faith to walk, but does not allow her to stand, does not allow her to sit, does not allow her to lie down, then she allows her to do what she allows. If a bhikkhu allows a female lay follower who possesses words of faith to walk and stand, but does not allow her to sit, does not allow her to lie down, then she allows her to do what she allows.
