So! Venerable ones, strike the ghanta. The great worthy son of Maugalyayana, having committed a minor offense and not confessing it according to the Dharma, should be expelled from the dwelling so that he does not see the offense. The steward of the Sangha went to the resident elder, and the group of six also went with him. At that time, the venerable Shariputra was the resident elder of the Sangha. When he always struck the ghanta, the venerable ones would ask: Who is fully abiding? Or who is fully abiding from the root? Should one be pleased? Or should one be pleased from the root? Should one expel? They would inquire according to the Dharma. The group of six said: Resident elder, no one is fully abiding, or fully abiding from the root, should be pleased, or should be pleased from the root, will not expel. For example, the venerable son of Maugalyayana quarrels because of a mistake, and will destroy the teachings of the Blessed One, and will not live by begging with a black bowl. Therefore, he claims to be the teacher of men, knows everything, and teaches. That also becomes fruitless. He burns the place of conduct, and we cannot even get alms. Therefore, he commits a crime but does not confess it according to the Dharma, and in order not to let him see the crime, we should do the work of expulsion. Venerable ones, dissatisfied with the resident elder of the Sangha, they said: This Buddha, the Blessed One, is omniscient, all-seeing, has supreme authority over knowledge and knowable things, and can cut off all doubts. Today, go to him and report this matter! Accept whatever the Blessed One prophesies to you! At that time, the monks prayed to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, these four things are not to be thought about. If someone thinks about them, they will become drunk, foolish, and obtain a distracted mind. What four? Namely: thinking about oneself, thinking about the world, thinking about the karmic results of sentient beings, and thinking about the Buddha-fields of the Buddhas. Thus, when the monk Maugalyayana's son was prophesied, at that time, he

He was a child, and later his name changed due to the maturation of his karma. If the monk Maudgalyayana's son were asked about it, the monk Maudgalyayana's son would also prophesy. Monks, the monk Maudgalyayana's son prophesies with such understanding, there is no falling. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Rajagriha (established in the mid-6th century BC, present-day Rajgir), in the grove of Odma, at the place of Kalandaka. In Rajagriha, there lived a householder who heard that whatever food is given without individual recognition to the Sangha of monks, it immediately increases with enjoyments. Having heard this, he thought to himself: This is a good way to achieve wealth, I too shall give food without individual recognition to the Sangha of monks. So he went to the street, bought a lot of meat, and then cooked a soup mixed with a lot of ghee in a copper pot, and at the city gate he said to the gatekeeper: Hey, chamberlain, whichever monk goes for alms, send him to my house. The gatekeeper said: Householder, it shall be sent accordingly. Whoever he saw going for alms, he would say to him: A certain great householder is offering alms to the monks today, please go to his place. And they would go to his house. Similarly, the gatekeeper instructed all the alms-seekers, and all the alms-seekers went to the house of that householder. Then, that householder filled their bowls with very greasy meat soup and gave it to them. That day, the sky was covered with clouds and a bad omen occurred. The monks, having eaten the food, could not roughly clean these greasy bowls, so they thought: There is a hot spring there, let us go to the hot spring and wash them. So they went to the hot spring and began to wash. Before long, a young monk wondered: Where does this hot spring come from? He paid attention to it properly. Not long after, the venerable Ananda was also washing his bowl, and he went to him and asked: Venerable Ananda, where does this hot spring come from?

And also not too long ago, let the venerable Maudgalyayana's son go to wash the bowl, approach and ask about this small matter, so the youth, the venerable Maudgalyayana's son, was sent to him. That youth went to him with vast peaceful conduct, and respectfully asked: Venerable, where does this warm water come from? He said: Venerable, from the great dragon lake Anavatapta. The attendant, having heard this, said: Venerable, do not harm the edge of the sutras, do not disturb the guidance of the Dharma, do not tear open the womb of the Dharma. Like this, we have no discrimination, do we not even have scripture? The Blessed One said that the water of the great dragon lake Anavatapta has eight qualities: coolness, sweetness, lightness, softness, clarity, absence of turbidity, not harming the throat when drinking, and not harming the stomach when drinking. Therefore, you have deceived with just the first quality. You do not live by the black bowl, therefore all the wise ones are doing grammar, and that has also become fruitless. You have burned the field of practice, so we cannot even get alms. You have committed a transgression, restore it according to the Dharma. The venerable one did not see the transgression. The group of six said: Venerable ones, the Blessed One said that because the transgression was not seen, the act of expulsion from the Sangha should be done. Therefore, why should we especially tolerate this person? Who is the steward? So-and-so. Call him. He was called. Venerable, strike the ghanta. Because Maudgalyayana's son committed a transgression in a small matter, but did not restore it according to the Dharma, therefore, because the transgression was not seen, the act of expulsion from the Sangha should be done. The steward went to the venerable one of the Sangha, and the group of six also went with him. At that time, the venerable Shariputra was serving as the venerable one of the Sangha, and he always, when striking the ghanta, asked the venerable ones
