Explanation of the Basis of Karma. Explanation of the Basis of Karma. Vinaya Basis, Volume Sixty-Nine. The summary of the Basis of Karma: In the city of Kāśī's residence, the Destroyer faction with objects, the Buddha, the Bhagavan in Campā, non-karma and return. In the city called Kāśī's residence, there lived a bhikkhu named the Destroyer faction. Based on this, the Brahmins and householders of the residential city performed actions for the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. If any newly arrived bhikkhus came to the residential city, he would let them rest, provide them with all necessities, allow the bhikkhus tired from the road to rest, and send them to the houses that provided alms for the bhikkhus. After some time, an elder, having completed the summer retreat in the residential city, after the three summer months had passed, possessed robes, and being complete with robes, he took his bowl and robes and traveled to Śrāvastī, gradually traveling and arriving in Śrāvastī. The conduct of the Group of Six was such that they would not leave any of the six gates of Prince Jeta's Grove empty. Therefore, Nanda, who was at the gate of Prince Jeta's Grove, saw from afar someone whose hair was like frost and whose eyebrows drooped. He thought: This must be a virtuous elder, I will go to greet him. So he went to greet him, saying: Venerable, welcome! Welcome! He said: Teacher, I prostrate to you! He thought: Alas, this person is an elder, he knows neither the teacher nor the preceptor. So he asked the elder where he came from? From the city of residence. Is there a monastery there? There is a monastery. Is it a monastery or a slum? What is a monastery like? What is a slum like? Wherever there is a complete abundance of necessities, that is a monastery. Wherever there are no necessities, that is a slum. If that is the case, then it is a monastery, and there lives a bhikkhu named the Destroyer faction. Based on this, the Brahmins and householders of the residential city...

The conduct of the Six Groups is that whatever they hear a little during the day, they gather together in the evening and talk to each other, (saying): "Happy one and Near-Happy one, how long must we endure suffering? Has any of you heard of any place with greater fame?" Near-Happy said: "In the city located in the country of Kashi, there lives a monk named Sangharakshita.

If he has it, he is offered all things, and he is sent to eat in the houses, but not to us, and they scold him: Old man, your desire and hatred are like that. If he is one who came before, he is also said to be one of us, and you offer him all things, and send him to eat in the houses, but not to us. It's like what was said before. Venerables, have you not declined a little? The six groups arose with displeasure and said: Does the one who should remain silent speak again? They decided that he should remain silent. They did not discuss him, did not remember him, and without his consent, they forcibly expelled him from a groundless place. He thought: It is difficult to make Brahmins and householders have faith, and it is easy to make them lose faith. If I stay, it will cause the Brahmins and householders in the city to lose faith, so I must leave in every way. So, he took his bowl and robes and went to where Śrāvastī was. Gradually walking, he arrived at Śrāvastī, and the monks saw him and said: Venerable Saṃghabheda has come, welcome, welcome. We are happy to see you, but it is better that you did not come. Because relying on you, the Brahmins and householders in the city do things for the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and those monks who come suddenly also rely on the people living in the city. If this is true, the six groups did not discuss me, did not remember me, and without my consent, they forcibly expelled me from a groundless place. He told what had happened, and they slandered him, mocked him, and insulted him. At this time, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, therefore, from now on, a monk should not discuss, should not remember, and should not forcibly expel someone from a groundless place without consent.
