In a dense forest that appeared delightful, there were five hundred hermits endowed with the five supernormal faculties, engaged in meditation. In that dense forest, there also lived a great multitude of birds. Because the thorn of meditation was sound, the birds would fly and make noises. Then, a hermit named 'Evil Nature' became angry and cursed the birds, saying, 'May your wings fall off!' Because the hermit was angry, their wings fell off. Then, they began to walk on their feet. The king also went on a tour of the realm and saw the birds walking on their feet. Then, he asked his ministers, 'Why are these birds walking on their feet?' The ministers said, 'O deity, because the thorn of meditation is sound, the angry hermits cursed them, and then because the hermit was angry, the wings of these birds fell off.' Then the king said, 'There are even hermits like this who have no compassion for sentient beings!' Having said this, he said to the wise ones, 'From today, you hermits must not live in my country, get out!' Then the ministers went to the hermits and proclaimed, 'The king has said, you must not live in my country!' The hermits thought, 'This king has dominion over the four continents, he will go to the terraces of Mount Meru.' Then, they went there and stayed. The king said, 'The people under me are thinkers, measurers, and reasoners. They think and reason, and then strive to do different kinds of manufacturing and work, so they are thinkers, measurers, and reasoners, therefore they are known as 'born from the power of name' and 'born from the power of strength'.' Then, they began to engage in agriculture. The king went on a tour of the realm and saw those people engaged in agriculture, and then he said to his ministers, 'What are these people doing?' The ministers said, 'O deity, in order to become medicine, they are planting crops, and so on.'

It is the one who builds the land. (The king said:) "Are the people of my kingdom farming?" Then he said, "May the gods send down a rain of twenty-seven kinds of seeds." As soon as King Ngale Nuyi generated this thought, the gods sent down a rain of twenty-seven kinds of seeds. King Ngale Nuyi asked the local people, "Whose merit has brought these about?" They said, "It is the grace of the gods, and also our grace." Then those people began to cultivate cotton fields, and King Ngale Nuyi, while touring the territory, saw them and said to the ministers, "What are these people doing?" The ministers said, "God, these people are cultivating cotton fields." The king said, "What is it for?" They said, "God, it is for making clothes." Then King Ngale Nuyi said, "Are the people of my kingdom cultivating cotton fields? May the gods send down only rain of cotton." As soon as King Ngale Nuyi generated this thought, the gods sent down only rain of cotton. The king asked the local people, "Whose merit has brought these about?" They said, "It is the grace of the gods, and also our grace." Then those people began to spin that cotton, and the king said, "What are these people doing?" The ministers said, "God, they are spinning cotton to get thread." The king said, "Are the people of my kingdom spinning cotton thread? May the gods send down only rain of cotton thread." As soon as King Ngale Nuyi generated this thought, the gods sent down only rain of cotton thread. That king said, "Whose merit has brought these about?" They said, "It is the grace of the gods, and also our grace." Then gradually they began to weave cloth, and the king said, "What are these people doing?" They said, "God, they are weaving cloth to make clothes." The king thought, "Are the people of my kingdom weaving cloth?" So he said, "May the gods send down rain of cloth itself." As soon as King Ngale Nuyi generated this thought, the gods sent down rain of cloth itself. The king asked, "Whose merit has brought these about?"
