Thinking, 'If this ordained one dies due to the threat of wind and heavy rain, I will lose the precepts of a hermit, that would not be good.' Then, he came out of that dwelling and began to look. Seeing him, he said: 'Hey, ordained one, please enter our dwelling.' He said: 'Great hermit, have you lost the precepts of a hermit?' The hermit recognized him from his voice and said: 'Is it the great son Maudgalyayana?' 'Hermit, I recognized you in that way. Holy one, for what purpose have you come? Knowing the time for your taming, I have come, come this way, let us go to the presence of the Blessed One.' Then, the venerable great Maudgalyayana, taking his uncle, went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head to the two feet of the Blessed One, and sat on one side. The venerable great Maudgalyayana said this to the Blessed One: 'This is my uncle, ordained among the hermits. It is appropriate for the Blessed One to teach him the Dharma.' Then, the Blessed One, knowing the thoughts, predispositions, faculties, and nature of that hermit, taught the Dharma that was suitable for him. Having heard that, that hermit realized the fruit of non-returning, and then rising from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and with his palms joined together, bowed towards where the Blessed One was, and said this to the Blessed One: 'Venerable one, if I could obtain the state of a Bhikshu, with ordination and full ordination, in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, I would practice the pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One.' The Blessed One ordained him with 'Come, Bhikshu,' from 'Come, Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha says come.' His hair was shaved, he possessed a body wearing robes, his senses were calmed and subdued, and his form was covered by the Buddha's intention. Up to here, it is the same as before. When the venerable great Maudgalyayana had left, that young Naga became very unhappy in that place, and then he sent an epidemic of disease to that mountain, and himself, as a hermit,

Having manifested in various forms, he went to that abode and stayed there. Then, the assembly of people living at the foot of the mountain gathered at that abode, and they said: Great sage, what should we do if we have a plague? The sage said: Come and stay here, and it will be pacified. Then, the assembly of people living at the foot of the mountain gathered there and stayed. Because a snake made an umbrella there, it was called Snake Umbrella, Snake Umbrella. The faithful built a monastery with all the necessary equipment. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in the mango grove of the untamed ones, on the bank of the river called "Extremely Excellent Water," with his disciples. Then, the Bhagavan said to the monks: Monks, you should abide in yourselves as an island, yourselves as a refuge, the Dharma as an island, and the Dharma as a refuge. Do not have other islands, do not have other refuges. Monks, you should abide in yourselves as an island, yourselves as a refuge, the Dharma as an island, and the Dharma as a refuge. You should each truly learn about this which is not another island and not another refuge. What are sorrow and, lamentation uttering cries and, suffering and, discomfort and, confusion like? If something exists, relying on what and clinging to what, and those who observe by thinking what I am, for them, sorrow and, lamentation uttering cries and, suffering and, discomfort and, confusion, whatever has not arisen will arise, and whatever has arisen will diminish, decline, increase, and grow. Venerable one, the Bhagavan is the root of all dharmas, the Bhagavan is the guide, the Bhagavan is the teacher. Therefore, if the Bhagavan explains this matter to the monks, the monks will hear and hold it from the Bhagavan. Monks, therefore, listen well and thoroughly and keep it in mind, and I will explain. Monks, if form exists, relying on form and clinging to form, and those who observe by thinking form is me, for them, sorrow and, lamentation uttering cries and, suffering and, discomfort and, confusion, whatever has not arisen will

Those who are born and have arisen will decline, increase, and grow. Monks, if there are feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness, and relying on consciousness, one becomes attached to consciousness and contemplates consciousness as self, then whatever grief, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and agitation that have not arisen will arise, and those who are born and have arisen will decline, increase, and grow. Monks, look! From "When mindfully inhaling, one should train, 'I am inhaling,'" to "contemplate feelings as feelings," as previously stated. At this time, the noble disciple dwells contemplating feelings as feelings. At this time, the noble disciple dwells knowing that there is mental activity within. For example, Ananda, at the crossroads of a great road, a stupa of dust is built, and if a rider, pack animal, or chariot wanders from the south, from "one should contemplate feelings as feelings" to, as previously stated. At this time, the noble disciple dwells knowing that there is mental activity within. When the noble disciple individually experiences the mind, greatly rejoices in the mind, dwells with equanimity in the mind, and liberates the mind and inhales, then one should train, "I inhale liberating the mind," and when exhaling, one should train, "I exhale liberating the mind," contemplating the mind as the mind, at this time the noble disciple dwells contemplating the mind as the mind. At this time, the noble disciple dwells knowing that there is mental activity within. The example of a pack animal coming from the west should be used. Because that body, that feeling, and that mind have extinguished craving and displeasure, one dwells contemplating the Dharma as the Dharma in equanimity. At this time, the noble disciple dwells contemplating the Dharma as the Dharma. At this time, the noble disciple dwells knowing that there is mental activity within. For example, at the crossroads of a great road, a stupa of dust is built, and then a rider, pack animal, or chariot wanders from the north.
