At one time, the Blessed One was at the foot of the Bodhi tree, at the great stupa of the Bodhi essence, together with a great assembly of monks, one thousand two hundred and fifty monks, namely: the venerable Śāradvatīputra, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana, and all the other great Śrāvakas; and also with a great assembly of Bodhisattvas, namely: the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Vajrapāṇi, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Vajradhvaja, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Vajragarbha, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Maitreya, and all the other Bodhisattva Mahāsattvas of the Bhadrakalpa. Then the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Vajrapāṇi said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, please explain the category of Dharma called 'Excellent Door' by the Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha, which will cause light to appear to sentient beings, and which will protect and save them from being harmed by all opponents and enemies, namely: not to be frightened by the lords of the gods, the lords of the nāgas, the lords of the yakṣas, the lords of the rākṣasas, and the lords of the bhūtas; not to be harmed by sins, weapons, poisons, and curses; whether going or coming, sleeping or waking, drunk or mad, it will always protect them. In order to protect and completely guard against... I pray to the Tathagata. Then, the Blessed One, understanding the request made by the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Vajrapani, spoke these words to him: Vajrapani, it is good, good that you pray to the Tathagata for the benefit of all sentient beings! Therefore, Vajrapani, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will explain the category of Dharma called "Good Gate." Om Gu Mu Gu Ba Li Ni, Bandha Ni, Ba La Zha Ma Na, Ba Hu Ba Hu Ba Hu Li Ber Ta Ya Svaha. 加持之陀罗尼。诸如来以慈悲为有情众生宣说之。如昔日之如来、应供、正等觉诸佛所说及加持，以真实之誓愿而安立，我亦如是宣说。尔时，世尊从大丈夫相眉间之白毫相中放出光明，于一切佛土中出现光明之景象。由光明之景象所激励，从各自之佛土出发，来到此娑婆世界。向世尊释迦牟尼佛赞叹道：善哉！释迦牟尼，汝为一切有情众生之利益，宣说名为善门之法类，能显现陀罗尼咒语之根本，能令极喜，能忆念，善哉善哉！我等亦加持之，赞叹善哉！无论何者之种姓之子或种姓之女，若能受持此陀罗尼咒语之根本，于清晨起身诵读，则当知彼种姓之子或种姓之女有二十种功德利益。何为二十？即：为一切诸佛所加持，为一切诸佛所忆念，能灭除堕恶趣之业障，能得长寿，能长久存活且具名声，能具受用，能具力量，能具威严，能恒常无病，能具精进，能令一切诸佛世尊欢喜且心满意足，为一切天人所思念，能行善，能精进于善事，能显现光明，能极度欢喜，能具足忆念，能具足殊胜之相，能无所畏惧，能具足一切善根。金刚手，此乃如来、应供、正等觉诸佛之秘密处之陀罗尼咒语之根本。

The Dharani of Empowerment. The Tathagatas, with compassion, expound it for the benefit of sentient beings. Just as the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas of the past have spoken and blessed, and established it with the vow of truth, so too shall I expound it. Then, the Bhagavan emitted rays of light from the urna hair between the eyebrows of the Great Being, and the appearance of light occurred in all Buddha-fields. Urged by the appearance of light, they departed from their respective Buddha-fields and came to this Saha world. They praised the Bhagavan Shakyamuni, saying: "Well done! Shakyamuni, for the benefit of all sentient beings, you have expounded the category of Dharma called the Good Gate, which illuminates the root of Dharani mantras, brings supreme joy, and enables remembrance. Well done, well done! We also bless it, and give praise!" Whichever son or daughter of good family who holds these root Dharani mantras and recites them upon rising in the morning, know that such a son or daughter of good family will have twenty benefits of merit. What are the twenty? They are: being blessed by all Buddhas, being remembered by all Buddhas, eliminating all karmic obscurations that lead to bad migrations, attaining longevity, living long and possessing fame, possessing enjoyment, possessing strength, possessing splendor, always possessing freedom from illness, possessing diligence, pleasing all Buddhas and Bhagavat, being cherished by all gods, acting virtuously, being exceedingly diligent in virtuous deeds, illuminating, being supremely joyful, possessing mindfulness, possessing perfect marks, becoming fearless, and possessing all roots of virtue. Vajrapani, this is the root of the Dharani mantras of the secret place of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas.
