In Sanskrit: Ārya-Mogha-pāśa-hṛdaya-nāma-mahāyāna-sūtra. In Tibetan: The Noble Essence of the Unfailing Lasso, Called the Great Vehicle Sutra. Homage to the Noble Unfailing Lasso! Homage to the Buddha! Homage to the Great Compassionate One! Thus have I heard at one time. The Blessed One was dwelling on the summit of Mount Potalaka, the abode of the Noble Avalokiteśvara, adorned with many trees such as the māla, tāmala, campaka, aśoka, and ati-muktakas, and completely adorned with various precious trees. With a great monastic community of eight thousand monks, and ninety-nine kotis of hundreds of thousands of nayutas of bodhisattvas, and surrounded and preceded by many thousands of sons of the pure abodes, they were dwelling together with many. The lords, the great lords, and the sons of the Brahma realms, mainly, were teaching the Dharma. Then, the bodhisattva mahasattva, the Noble Avalokiteśvara, arose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, placed his right knee on the ground, and with palms joined, bowed to the Blessed One, and with a smiling face, spoke thus to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I have what is called the Essence of the Unfailing Lasso. In the past, ninety-one kalpas ago, in the world called 'World-Seeing,' from the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, King of the World, I received it. Also, I have gathered many hundreds of thousands of sons of the pure abodes, mainly the lords and the great lords. I have attained a hundred thousand tenth samadhis of the lord of wisdom of the Unsurpassed, Perfectly Complete Enlightenment, the Unfailing Lasso. Furthermore, wherever the Blessed One diligently practices, it is to be realized. Blessed One, that place will be guarded, protected, and concealed by twelve thousand sons of the gods, mainly the lords, the great lords, and the Brahma realms. Wherever this Unfailing

If one makes excellent use of the essence of the unfailing noose, then that single direction of the Blessed One's place will become a stupa. Whichever sentient beings hear the essence of the unfailing noose, they will make offerings to many Buddhas, a hundred thousand million trillion. Blessed One, whichever bodhisattva hears the essence of the unfailing noose here, my roots of virtue will increase. Some, Blessed One, commit sinful faults, truly practice all sinful dharmas, slander the noble ones, disparage the sacred Dharma, are devoted to Avici, disparage all the Buddhas and bodhisattvas, as well as the noble Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. If they repent and henceforth cut off and take vows, Blessed One, if they temporarily fast for one day and recite it, then their karma from this life will be completely purified and completely exhausted. It will be averted. Whether it is a fever that lasts only one day, or two days, three days, or four days, therefore, whether it is bloody diarrhea, or fever, or hand pain, or foot pain, or headache, or being afflicted by the poison of hala hala, or leprosy, or athlete's foot, or smallpox, or boils, or carbuncles, or freckles, or itching, or the appearance of spots, or pimples, or forgetfulness, or widespread pain, or killing, or binding, or beating, or threatening, or speaking unpleasant words, in short, Blessed One, whether it is a physical illness, or mental suffering, or seeing bad dreams, their karma will be completely purified and exhausted. Sentient beings who are already pure, if they have faith and even greater devotion, will become exceedingly pure. Blessed One, if the four assemblies and the four castes deceive and flatter me in any way, they will also make offerings. Whoever here hears the essence of the unfailing noose, and holds its meaning, or upholds it, or recites it, or asks, or causes others to ask, or fully understands, or causes other sentient beings to hear it, or even places it in the ear of a being belonging to the animal realm and recites it. One should contemplate this mantra's words, and it is non-abandoning, formless, non-conceptual, truly unborn, and long-lasting.

Without arising, without illusion, without stain, with equal mind without distraction, by this union that is separated from the five aggregates, one should remember the Buddha. To them, hundreds of thousands of Buddhas of the ten directions will show their faces. By your recitation, sins will be confessed. Having written it in as many books as possible, one should invite it to reside in the home. What should the many Bhagavats do? Listening with mutual competition, or listening with fear of the lord, or following others, or listening for the purpose of disparaging others, the wise should know that this is not the blessing of the Holy Avalokiteśvara. The sound of it will be heard in their ears. O Bhagavan, it is like this: if someone grinds and rubs sandalwood, or camphor, or saffron, or musk, and applies it to himself, then the scent of sandalwood, or camphor, or saffron, or musk will not be transferred in that way. The fragrance is also the same. O Bhagavan, in the same way, if someone mocks and slanders this essence of my unfailing noose, and, as before, offers illusions and flattery to me, then, O Bhagavan, those stubborn sentient beings will generate roots of virtue. It is said that holding on to desire is difficult, and it will be so in the future as well. Wherever one is born, in that place, one will not be separated from the fragrance of ethics, samadhi, wisdom, and the accumulation of merit. May the fragrance of ethics become fragrant. Furthermore, O Bhagavan, if a son of good family, or a daughter of good family, or a monk, or a nun, or a male lay devotee, or a female lay devotee, or some others besides them, for the sake of the essence of the unfailing noose, observe fasting on the eighth day of the white side, and recite the essence of the unfailing noose seven times without uttering the words, then, O Bhagavan, may that person desire to obtain twenty benefits separately in this very life. What are the twenty? Diseases will not arise in that person's body, and even diseases caused by karma will quickly subside. The body will become smooth, pleasing, and white. Beings
