如是观察。 元音字母若成仇敌则短命，辅音字母若成仇敌则多病。 若成庸常，即使念诵也无有力量。地之敌乃火，火之敌乃水，水之敌乃风，风之敌乃地。若成仇敌，则损害极大。损害之方式如何，如前所说。 地水二者乃互相为友，火风二者亦互相为友。虚空乃一切之友，一切亦为虚空之友。若成朋友，则一切所欲成就。 何者息灭烦恼，何者生起智慧？将成为上述所说之义的知识。 地于火无有力量，成庸常者。如是，火于水无有力量。水于风无有力量，如是，风于地无有力量。因彼被诛，故于此无有力量。即使念诵真言，亦将无有结果。 若于水中相遇，则一切寂静之事业皆成就。若于地中相遇，则一切增益之事业皆成就。若于火中相遇，则怀柔与猛厉皆成就。若于风中相遇，则猛厉之事业皆成就。若于虚空中相遇，则获得殊胜之成就。 以此之理，名字之首二字母，若能善知何者为敌友，则居处与房屋，坟地是否相宜，马骡牛羊是否增多或遭灾，夫妻、师徒、朋友是否和睦，诉讼争斗谁胜谁负等等，若能详细观察，则将生起有漏之现量。此乃主要时轮续之意趣。我曾请教众多贤善之师，对此仅此一点，一切皆意见一致，唯独自己名字之首字母意见不合。有人说自己的名字要翻译成汉语。如是，那若巴六个藏文字母的生起所说，也将变得无有必要。除非是上师所赐，否则不必翻译。有人说要重视自己的密名。因获得众多灌顶，故密名众多。若重视此，不重视彼，则将变得无关。有人说噶举派的“噶”字和格鲁派的“洛”字，萨迦派的“昆”字和竹巴噶举派的“昂旺”等，因是共名，故重视亦无有利益，应重视自己名字的真实本体。有人说名字字母繁多，故应重视开头。未有定论，一切皆茫然不知所措。彼时我以教证与理证进行分析。此乃世俗谛。

Thus examine. If vowel letters become enemies, life will be short; if consonant letters become enemies, many diseases will occur. If they become ordinary, even recitation will have no power. Earth's enemy is fire, fire's enemy is water, water's enemy is wind, wind's enemy is earth. If they become enemies, the harm is very great. How the harm occurs is as previously stated. Earth and water are mutual friends, fire and wind are also mutual friends. Space is a friend to all, and all are friends to space. If they become friends, whatever siddhis are desired will occur. Whatever pacifies afflictions, whatever generates wisdom, will become knowledge of the meaning previously stated. Earth has no power over fire, becoming ordinary. Likewise, fire has no power over water. Water has no power over wind, likewise, wind has no power over earth. Because it is killed by the other, it has no power over the other. Even if mantras are recited, there will be no result. If they meet in water, all peaceful activities will be accomplished. If they meet in earth, all increasing activities will be accomplished. If they meet in fire, subjugation and wrathful activities will be accomplished. If they meet in wind, wrathful activities will be accomplished. If they meet in space, supreme siddhis will be attained. By this reasoning, if one knows well what becomes enemy or friend from the first two letters of a name, then whether the place and house, the cemetery are suitable or not, whether horses, mules, cattle, and sheep will increase or suffer disaster, whether spouses, teachers, and friends are harmonious or not, who loses and who wins in lawsuits and disputes, etc., if one examines in detail, manifest knowledge with defilements will arise. This is the intention of the main Kalachakra Tantra. I have consulted many wise teachers, and on this one point, all agreed, except for the first letter of one's own name, on which they disagreed. Some say that one's name should be translated into Chinese. If so, the statement about the arising of the six Tibetan letters of Naropa would also become unnecessary. Unless given by the guru, it is not necessary to translate. Some say that one's secret name should be valued. Because many empowerments are received, there are many secret names. If one values this and not that, it will become irrelevant. Some say that the 'Ka' of the Kagyu school and the 'Lo' of the Gelug school, the 'Kun' of the Sakya school and the Ngawang of the Taklung Kagyu school, etc., are common names, so valuing them is of no benefit; one should value the actual essence of one's own name. Some say that because there are many letters in a name, one should value the beginning. Without a definite conclusion, everyone was left bewildered. At that time, I analyzed with scripture and reasoning. This is the conventional truth.
