The so-called "Great Oral Instruction" refers to a lama who, having abandoned distractions, stays in retreat for a long time, or a student who, with great faith in the Dharma, follows the lama for a long time. The lama teaches one Dharma topic at a time, until the meaning of that topic arises in the student's mindstream. If the meditation is not clear, the lama clarifies it as needed. Then, the students each present their experiences of realization, and the lama corrects any imperfections. If it is confirmed that the student has understood and that realization will definitely arise in their mindstream, then the lama teaches the next Dharma topic. In this way, the instruction is extended for years, and the result is that the completion of the instruction and the arising of realization in the mindstream occur simultaneously. It is said that Je Gongma Wangdrag Gyatso and others did it this way. In the Kathok area, people do not engage in other studies, but first receive instruction for three years, then practice for three years, and then are given the title of lama, which is excellent. The so-called "Old Woman's Guidance" refers to a lama who, although possessing realization, does not intend to explain the lineage and teachings of the scriptures, or even if they intend to explain, but because the students are foolish ordinary people who do not understand the meaning of the scriptures at all, they do not quote the scriptures, but introduce and clarify whatever comes to mind, just like ordinary chatting. Although it sounds like nonsense, the other person can understand the meaning and also generate experiences and realizations. Nowadays, most of the wandering practitioners who receive guidance seem to be doing it this way. The so-called "Big Person's Pompous Guidance" refers to great lamas, local leaders, and reincarnated lamas, etc., who want to receive many instructions, but do not have time to listen. So, the lama just recites the lineage of the instruction text once, and emphasizes some important points verbally, and finally says, "Meditate on these stages of the essential points," and then ends. The students also just flip through the instruction text and practice as much as they can from the book, and pass it on to others. The so-called "Greedy Person's Accumulation Guidance" refers to those geshes (doctors of Buddhist philosophy) who have vast knowledge and want to receive countless kinds of guidance. However, they also do not have time to listen to the transmission of a large number of scriptures. So, the lama just recites the transmission of the root words of various instructions, and even if they do not give the complete initiation and explanation of the detailed instruction text, it is acceptable. The lama just briefly introduces the meaning of the instruction verbally, so that people can receive many instructions at the same time. They practice themselves and pass it on to others, so that the lineage of the instruction will not be interrupted, which is much better than just reciting the transmission of tsampa. In this regard, some people say that it is not appropriate to give guidance if one only receives the recitation transmission and does not have the instruction transmission. However, I have not seen this prohibition in any reliable scriptures. Any guidance

Once the nature of mind is clearly seen, all the instructions for which one has received transmission can be applied. Likewise, nowadays, the general practice of the teachings is that once the root verses have been obtained, detailed explanations can be given from memory or from books. Furthermore, if the lama realizes without meditation, then the student can generate realization simply by receiving clarification and seeing the lama's face. Even if one realizes a single taste, there is no need for extensive explanation; realization can arise through hints or a brief Dharma talk. Having realized freedom from elaboration, realization arises by explaining the instructions in detail. The lineage cannot be blessed by mere one-pointedness; without seeing the essence, teaching the instructions is of no benefit to anyone. It is a cause for obstructing the arising and growth of one's own experience and realization, so one does not speak until the time is right. However, it is said that if one has a good mind of benefiting others, just as a deaf person blows a conch shell, it may still be of some slight benefit to others. If experience and realization are good, love and compassion will naturally arise. However, those who lack experience and realization and seek worldly gain, teaching whatever instruction manual they see, even without lineage transmission, will fall into the Avici hell due to the sin of selling the Dharma and deceiving sentient beings. Know that this is the work of demons. Performing empowerments and transmissions without the continuity of empowerment and transmission is the same. Therefore, like this, the instructions of Kharak, whose breath has not yet faded, are extremely profound. This is not a teaching of explanation, but a teaching of experiential response, so although there are many desires to express, many refutations and affirmations, and many sections that could be made, they have not been done. To please those with qualities, quotations from sutras and tantras have been arranged as appropriate. To make it easy for the ignorant to grasp, the essential points have been condensed and arranged. The tulku said, "Master Chakme, although you were previously a student of Kyieu, you have not done much practice on this great compassion. Now you seem interested, so do it." Therefore, based on a slight understanding of the Great Compassionate One, like an ocean, and especially the Seven-Line Prayer, adorned with the scriptural authority of the teachings and treasures, it has been arranged for the benefit of oneself and others. Relying on this, may the practice lineage of the Mind Treasure of Namchö flourish, increase, and abide long, and may the lotus feet of the precious tulku be firm and his activity expand. Mangalam! By the merit of constructing, holding, and reading this volume, may I and my brother and retinue...
