And, the yogi, with equipoise, should count the entering breath, such as the number of a hundred thousand, etc., and constantly recite silently. When the practitioner completes a hundred thousand silent recitations, even if life is reduced by five years, he will survive here without a doubt. Always get up in the morning and count a thousand breaths. Therefore, for the yoga of breath, one should always abide in equipoise. Thus it is said. Thus, even if one cannot continuously practice the three places of breath origin, one should know the principle of them even when walking, sitting, lying down, and acting. Holding the breath in between is the key to holding the breath. The intermediate breath is when the lower gate is slightly contracted and the abdomen is relaxed. When sleeping at night, one should also visualize the entering breath as Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:Om), the breath staying inside as Ah (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आः,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:Ah), and the exiting breath as Hum (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hum), and then fall asleep. The number of breaths during sleep is the same as reciting mantras, so it is a profound key to obtaining great power without effort. Even when one is too busy during the day to hold the intermediate breath, one should remember that the three places of breath origin are three syllables. Just remembering them is also a key to accomplishing the recitation of mantras. In particular, here, when practicing Tummo, the practice is vase breath. There are two views on this vase breath: one is that the body is filled with breath from below the throat to above the secret place, which is the great vase; filling up to above the heart is the middle vase; and filling only the abdomen is the small vase. The second is that when sitting in the lotus position, touching the forehead and both knees with the palms, snapping the fingers once counts as one time. Being able to hold the breath inside for one hundred and eight times is the great vase; being able to hold it for seventy-two times is the middle vase; and if one cannot hold it for more than thirty-six times, it is considered the small vase. Pressing the upper breath down and raising the lower breath up to fill the body is definitely vase breath. The Compendium says: The breaths that go up and down are done with the union of mind. If one is accustomed to this yoga, one will attain a stable position. Thus, the summary of the great vase is said, and again: Or with the great vase yoga, one will always conquer the Lord of Death. With self-awareness to the soles of the feet, everywhere filled with the thought of breath, for the vase breath
