Like my teeth, how does it perceive? Everything like enemies, friends, pleasant or unpleasant, is like that. So, what is called awareness and knowledge is merely a designation. If examined and analyzed, even so, it is difficult to say, "This is how it is aware, this is how it is known, this is how it is speculated." If one thinks that appearance itself is emptiness, then at the time of speculation, knowledge, and awareness, that is certainly a foundation that is not established. Therefore, from before until now, one clings to what is originally without awareness as awareness, what is originally without knowledge as knowledge, what is originally without mind as mind, what is originally without intention as intention, what is originally without speculation as speculation, and thus becomes distracted. Do you understand? Alas, son of noble family! This mind is like the sky. Does the sky have an established "this"? Similarly, the mind is like the color of the sky, like the horn of a rabbit. The foundation is not established, there is no root, no support, no stability, no nature, no sign, no characteristic, it is not permanent, it has no color, no shape, no own essence, no arising, no ceasing, no abiding. That is the unconditioned nature of reality itself. Therefore, even the all-knowing one cannot see it, does not see it, and will not see it. If it were slightly established, the all-knowing one would see it, but because the foundation is not established at all, it is not seen. Has this definitive understanding of the meaning now entered your heart well? From before until now, mind! Intention! Consciousness! Joy! Displeasure! Happiness! Suffering! Delusion! Liberation! Purity! Impurity! Superior! Inferior! Good! Bad! And so on, by clinging to these, one is thoroughly disturbed. Since the mind is invisible, how can those be visible? Now, let your mind rest in a state of mindlessness! Let it rest in a state of unthinkability! Let it rest in a state of no affirmation and negation! Let it rest in a state of no acceptance and rejection! Let it rest in a state of no hope and fear! Let it rest in a state of no yes and no! Let it rest in a state of no good and bad! Let it rest in a state of no delusion and liberation! Orgyen Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) said: Oh, just like that, when the mind is left uncorrected and naturally abiding, look closely at the awareness at that time! Has your mind, with its thoughts pacified in themselves, remained naturally abiding in an uncorrected state? This is called stillness (shamatha), the mind's

Its essence is also that. Now, each of you look at the essence of your own mind that abides. Is it not established as the essence of any object, shape, or color, but rather a state of emptiness and nothingness? This is called emptiness. The power of this emptiness has not ceased, like a calm surface of water, or like a clear sky, bright and clear. This is called self-luminous nature. The emptiness in which the essence of anything is not established, and the luminosity whose power has not ceased, these two are inseparable and indistinguishable, like being glued together, like space. There is a knowing, although it cannot be described in words, but this clear awareness right now is called awareness. This is also the master of thought, so it is called mind. This is also the master of remembering all kinds of things, so it is called memory. Although invisible, it is clear and distinct, so it is called Vipassanā (superior seeing). This is also the master of distinguishing all differences like sesame pods, so it is called discriminating wisdom. Thus, the Sugata-garbha, the single bindu, Dharmadhatu and wisdom, Madhyamaka, ultimate truth, Mahamudra, Dzogchen, emptiness, etc., are all names for this one. Thus it is said. In the Dharmakaya pointing-out instruction, it says: Now, all appearances are like water and waves, all are the magical manifestations of the mind, and in reality nothing is established, so all appearances are recognized in the mind. The essence of that mind, if examined in terms of coming, staying, and going, is not established in any of the three places, like horses and elephants in a dream, which are not established in reality, so the mind is recognized in emptiness. In the state of emptiness, clarity, and purity, without cessation, various spontaneous manifestations arise in great bliss, like the moon in water, so emptiness is recognized in spontaneous accomplishment. As such, in the moment of spontaneous accomplishment, luminous awareness, emptiness spontaneously accomplished, free from elaboration, unchanging, without moving from great bliss, like a snake untying its knot, arising and liberation are simultaneous, so spontaneous accomplishment is recognized in self-liberation. The root mind that can recognize is ordinary consciousness, not moving yet moving, not...
