To prevent various situations from arising, they must be blocked. In the Mitra tradition's Red Guidance on Great Compassion, it is said that meditating on one's own body as the deity is a good practice. Even if you don't meditate, there's no need to worry about harm to yourself. The Vajra's teachings have the same intent, saying, 'The protective circle is a wondrous armor of enlightenment.' The 'Namasangiti' states, 'Adorned with the armor of love, clad in the chainmail of compassion.' Therefore, if one meditates regularly on the practice of giving and taking (Tonglen) in each session, no obstacles can hinder it, and it is the supreme protection. Even if harmed by male spirits, female spirits, Naga spirits, etc., if you steadfastly direct the practice of love, compassion, giving, and taking towards those spirits, they will be bound by oath and become your Dharma protectors. In the past, the Bhagavan also subdued Mara's army with the Samadhi of Love, and the rain of weapons turned into a rain of flowers. Even if you yourself are afflicted by illness, absorb all the diseases and sufferings of all sentient beings into your own sickness. If you meditate steadfastly on the practice of giving and taking, it will benefit all illnesses except those resulting from the ripening of karma. In the past, the virtuous spiritual friend Acharya was difficult to teach, but by relying solely on the practice of giving and taking, he benefited about five hundred lepers, hence it was known as the Kadampa's Leprosy Dharma. When Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon (1143-1217) contracted leprosy, he practiced giving and taking, and a white snake emerged from his nostrils, and his body felt well. When he didn't practice, the white snake returned, and his illness worsened. This instruction was given to others, benefiting many lepers, so it was said that 'the crows chased away leprosy.' Even if it doesn't help because it is a karmic illness, by meditating on this practice, the pain of the illness will purify whatever negative karma and obscurations from past lives. Padampa Sangye said, 'Being sick is not being sick, but a broom for the yogi's obscurations.' Therefore, being sick will transform into the path to enlightenment. Similarly, no matter what suffering arises for you, absorb the suffering of all sentient beings into your own suffering, and by meditating on the practice of giving and taking, whatever suffering arises will transform into the path to enlightenment. Similarly, when faced with undeserved slander, insults, defamation, harsh words, and unbearable feelings,
