And, summarizing the contents of texts like the Sutra on the Establishment of the World, I will explain it in an easy-to-understand manner. Twenty thousand yojanas below the Anavatapta lake, there is the Avici hell. Above it, the seven hot hells are arranged like the eaves of a house. The uppermost is the Sañjīva hell, where the beings born there develop thoughts of enmity towards each other. Whatever they grab in their hands turns into sharp weapons, and they strike each other, all falling down and dying. A voice comes from the sky saying, "Be revived!" and all beings revive as before, and again kill each other. They do this until their lifespan is exhausted. The lifespan is: three hundred and twenty trillion human years. In the Kālasūtra hell, black lines are drawn on the body, and the workers saw it apart with saws and chop it with axes. The lifespan is: one quadrillion, two hundred and ninety-nine trillion human years. In the Sanghata hell, between things that look like the faces of two mountain goats, they are squeezed and crushed like pressing a millstone. Then, when the two mountains separate, a cold wind blows, and the body revives as before, but they are constantly crushed again, or squeezed between iron mortars, and blood flows like a river. One hundred and sixty-eight trillion, sixty-eight thousand billion human years. In the Raurava hell, after escaping from a crowded place, they enter an iron house. Flames burn outside the house, and they make pitiful cries of agony. One hundred billion, four million, five hundred and fifty-two thousand billion human years. In the Mahāraurava hell, they enter two iron houses that are burning in succession, and they make great cries of agony from being burned. Sixty-six billion, three million, five hundred and fifty-two thousand billion human years. In the Tapana hell, boiling bile is poured into the mouth, burning the abdomen, or a sharp, thorn-tipped weapon is thrust into the anus and out through the crown of the head. Five hundred billion, ten billion, eight million, four hundred and sixteen thousand trillion human years. In the Pratāpana hell, boiling bile is poured into the abdomen, and all the internal organs except the skin are burned, and fire comes out of the nine orifices.

The Avīci Hell is: a burning iron house, inside which is twenty thousand yojanas in width and length, inside which are countless yojanas of iron and copper, filled with boiling iron and copper liquids, and boiled by great fire without interruption. The lifespan can last one intermediate kalpa. These are the main sufferings of the eight hot hells, and sometimes many minor sufferings also occur. The Pratāpana Hell is: hands and feet tied to a tree and burned with fire, being eaten by the five things on the burning mountain, burning stones, burning iron, and raining sparks. The Raurava Hell is: being pierced by iron worms, taking out fruits with iron tongs, pulling the tongue to the crown of the head, cutting off one's own flesh and putting it in the mouth. The Mahāraurava Hell is: straightening the tongue and pouring copper juice, being eaten by many burning creatures, being burned and melted in a furnace and hammered with a hammer. The Avīci Hell is: the burning iron-hot ground of countless yojanas, the whole body is burned. The body burns like fire, and it is only known to be a sentient being by making a sound.
