The place of offering, the objects of offering, and the offerer also without any clinging, abide equally in the state beyond extremes and beyond mind. Furthermore, the four mixings are: mixing one's own body with another's body, mixing one's own mind with another's mind, mixing one's own awareness with the awareness of the dharmadhatu, and mixing the skandhas with the tsok offering. The Profound Instructions on Chöd. The very nature of being free from elaboration, to the body, speech, and mind of the incomparable guru, I prostrate. Having paid homage to the Great Mother Prajnaparamita, I shall write the order of instructions on Chöd. In that, what is to be cut is the identification of the demons. How to cut that way? Two ways. First, from the mouth of Machig: Demons with obstacles and demons without obstacles, demons of joy and elation and demons of pride. As it is said, the first of the four is: the fire, water, poison, weapons, wild animals, etc., that appear as the objects of the five senses. Demons without obstacles are: externally, those that roam in the sky, invisible to the eyes of gods, demons, and humans. Internally, they are: afflictions, illnesses, suffering, etc. Demons of joy and elation are: having the desire to obtain fruits and benefits. Demons of pride are: various thoughts that scatter in various ways. Furthermore, the second is the method of arousing what has not been aroused, the method of suppressing what has been aroused, the method of giving alms after suppressing, and the teachings that arise incidentally after cutting. The first of the four is: for the practitioner of Chöd: a small seat of leg bone trumpet, skull, hand drum, bell, human skin, etc., and a bear's paw four fingers wide. The third is: the high ground with the low ground and the low ground with the high ground, the dryness of great moisture, the moisture of great dryness, the place where the shadow of the top of the hill falls, the tip of the rocky mountain, and the empty cemetery, a single tree, a nine-headed spring, a seven-headed spring, a five-headed spring, a three-headed spring, muddy ground, puddles, stagnant water, etc., all places where the sun does not shine. In short, any place that is thought to be frightening is a dangerous place. A nine-headed spring is inhabited by a naga demon. A seven-headed spring is inhabited by a Brahmin. A five-headed spring is inhabited by royalty. A three-headed spring is inhabited by commoners and the general population. In water where the sun does not rise, nagas reside. Lakes, Lumo trees, single trees, Brahmaneusings, reservoirs, etc., are all places where dangers reside. If rocks resemble tigers, snakes, frogs, birds, pigs, etc., then earth lords reside there. If rock faces resemble mountains, ridges, turtles, scorpions, yaks, cattle, camels, buffaloes, etc., then great earth lords, nagas, and demons reside there. If rock faces resemble volcanoes and swords, then...
