A Concise Collection of Mountain Retreat Visualization Stages Necessary for the Chö Practice by Je Könchok Bang. A Concise Collection of Mountain Retreat Visualization Stages Necessary for the Chö Practice by Je Könchok Bang. (ཞ) Herein lies a concise collection of mountain retreat visualization stages necessary for the Chö practice by Je Könchok Bang. Namo Prajñāpāramitāye. Having paid homage to the Perfection of Wisdom, I shall set down a few instructions on the mountain retreat visualization stages. May Machig Dakini bestow her blessings. Although this Chö instruction bestowed by Jetsun Könchok Bang contains everything complete, here are a few visualization stages that are particularly necessary for it. First, at the beginning of the journey, instantly generate yourself as the Great Mother, and blow the leg bone trumpet three times. This will gather all the dispersing, scattering, and distracting bodily demons and local spirits of that place without any control, and silently absorb them into the mountain or sacred site, thus subduing them. Then, in the heart of your Great Mother, generate a golden nine-pointed vajra, one span in size. PHAṬ! By reciting the golden vajra, etc., from your heart according to the text, the vajra emanates from your heart and descends upon the sacred site. Expand it greatly to pervade the three thousand worlds, and again, from that vajra, countless vajras emanate. All the gods, demons, kings, ministers, subjects, and retinues residing in that sacred site's area are covered without control, as if covered by a hail of ice. They are intoxicated as if pressed down by cotton in water, and covered by a dense fog, so that there is nowhere to escape. Meditating that there is no place to escape is called "throwing the golden vajra's long-range suppression." 7. Then, proceed according to the text, and visualize yourself riding a lion without a mane, going into the sky. All on the right side are iron vajras, all on the left are copper vajras, behind are silver vajras, and above are golden vajras, all in the form of a box. Visualize your heart's vajra and the sacred site's vajra as the samaya and jñana beings, with a single, bright, and clear beam of light connecting them in between, like hailstones, and then proceed. This is the visualization of the four vajra boxes and the vajra chain. 7. Then, all the harmful and malicious demons and obstacles that harm and injure your home, door, road, and street, and those you are protecting, are like dogs following behind their master.
