Beggars do meaningful Dharma! I am clever, I am arrogant, I am skilled, nourished like a son with food and clothing, with ten thousand comfortable residences, countless noble and high-ranking ministers, but when one sees him wandering alone, see if there is any essence in servants and attendants? Treasures of gold, silver, silk, and jewels, treasures of grains like barley, wheat, sesame, and rice, treasures of foods like sugar, honey, meat, and butter, treasures of sacred objects like silk thangkas and clay statues, when one sees these being used by others, see if there is any essence in wealth and enjoyment? Claiming to be the "King of Tsampa (roasted barley flour) of Tibet," coming from Upper Ngari to prostrate, offering copper, gold, silver, and jewels like mountains, decrees running throughout Nepal, but when one sees him forcibly imprisoned, see if there is any essence in fame? Because he is a patron of the teachings, all the noble ones know and praise him. Monks and Geshes prostrate to him, beings of the three realms offer worship and praise. When one sees him being demoted to the edge of the village, see if there is any essence in flattery and praise? The Tagshar region of the four Ru of U-Tsang, calling him "King of Upper Tsang, one is enough," offering worship and praise nearby, offering worship and praise far away. When one sees him imprisoned, see if there is any essence in fame and praise? From various places, gathering beautiful women, decorating castles with ornaments from their respective homelands, dancing to the beat of drums, offering toasts to each other while singing.
