A concise guide to the practice of Union of Hand Seal and Completion, bestowed upon the Abbot of Champhu. A concise guide to the practice of Union of Hand Seal and Completion, bestowed upon the Abbot of Champhu. A concise guide to the practice of Union of Hand Seal and Completion. Bestowed upon the Abbot of Champhu. Sanskrit Romanization: Namo mahāmudrāye, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to the Great Seal). Samantabhadra Vajradhara, Garab Dorje Sara Ha, To the inseparable, kind Lama, I pray, look upon me with compassion, Bless me to generate realization. Abbot of Champhu, listen now, Contemplate this letter. In this precious opportunity of leisure and endowment, Although the explanations are vast and numerous, No need for explanations, look with your eyes. Even if a king's power is vast, It is difficult to gather a million soldiers, Yet each ant nest contains more than a million, Look at the number of insects and creatures, See how difficult it is to obtain a human body. In the Dharma practice of contemplating impermanence, No need for explanations, listen with your ears, If there is no certainty of old age or youth, Both the high and the low, All gradually die, listen to the news. What confidence do you have that you will not die? Consider whether there is certainty in lifespan. Even those with great power and wealth, Have not found a way to prevent death, So listen to the stories of everyone dying. Even if you have only passed today, Do you have the certainty that you will not die? Where will you go after death? What confidence do you have that you are not afraid of death? In the Dharma practice of contemplating cause and effect, No need for explanations, contemplate. Even for children born to the same parents, The length of life, happiness and suffering, Wealth and poverty, etc., are not the same, If not for karma, what else could it be? Present happiness and suffering are due to past actions, Where you will be born in the future is due to present actions, Definitely harmful are sins and transgressions, Definitely beneficial is the path of virtue, Abandon what is definitely harmful, and practice what is definitely beneficial, Understand this in the meantime. In the Dharma practice of contemplating the faults of samsara, No need for explanations, look and see clearly, Among the six realms, the most excellent is the human body, But what are birth, old age, sickness, and death like? Leprosy and other terrible diseases are like hell, Strife and killing are like Asuras, Being high and falling low is like the gods, Dying of famine is like pretas, Punishment, binding, and beating are like animals, If human suffering is like this, What need is there to say about being born in the lower realms? If it happens to you, what will you think? That is also the result of your own actions, No one

Abandon selfish actions. If you never want suffering, do not cling to the mire of samsara. Strive to be reborn in a pure land. Samsara is only suffering; there is no other refuge from it. The Three Jewels are the certain refuge, the embodiment of Orgyen Rinpoche. The lotus hat, Dharma robes, khatanga, etc., all the ornaments and attire, visualize clearly at the crown of your head. This life, the next life, and the three bardos, whatever you do, you know, entrust your heart and soul. Take refuge as usual, to the best of your ability. All sentient beings of the six realms are your parents from countless lifetimes. The suffering of the six realms is truly heartbreaking. May they all attain happiness, may I alone bear it, generate such a strong bodhichitta. Dedicate all the virtuous deeds you do for the benefit of all sentient beings. This is the supreme path of the Mahayana, the cause for ultimately attaining Buddhahood. Its practice is as follows: When the breath from your nostrils goes out, all your virtuous deeds dissolve into all sentient beings of the six realms, visualize that they all possess happiness. When the breath comes in, all the sins and downfalls of sentient beings dissolve into you, visualize that all beings are free from suffering. This is the practice of giving and taking, the root of the Kadampa Dharma. It is the method for pacifying sickness, evil spirits, and obstacles, the supreme armor for protecting compassion, the method for attaining perfect Buddhahood, like seed, water, and fertilizer. Therefore, morning, noon, evening, and night, focus on the flow of breath, a hundred times or twenty-one times, consistently practice meditation daily. Then there is the method for purifying obscurations, from the form of Padmasambhava at the crown of your head, a stream of nectar descends, entering through the Brahma aperture at the crown of your head, filling your entire body, the sins and defilements, becoming like smoke, soot, and grime, are expelled from the soles of your feet, dissolving into the earth below, visualize your body as a crystal sphere. Recite the Vajra Guru mantra as much as you can. Then there is the method for accumulating merit, offering your body, possessions, and all virtuous roots, the four continents, Mount Meru, the sun and moon, and the perfect enjoyments of gods and humans, to Orgyen Rinpoche, visualize. On the ground anointed with incense, offer the mandala to the best of your ability. Then there is the method for receiving blessings, at the crown of your head.
