It is impossible to write down all that Jowo-je (Atisha) extensively spoke about regarding the Small Treatise and the Eight Wonderful Names, etc. To briefly explain the merit of prostrations, the merit of the time, the merit of the prostrator, and the merit of the manner of prostration: In the Tantra of Supreme Wisdom, it says: "Compared to prostrating to ninety-two kotis of tathagatas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, prostrating with faith to the great king of wisdom, Vajrapani, generates more merit than that." Therefore, reciting "In the supreme and sacred place of Champaka" and prostrating to Vajrapani is of great benefit. In the White Lotus Sutra, it says: "If someone offers clothes, food, bedding, excellent medicine, and provisions to sixty-two kotis of Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, the merit of that is equal to the merit of merely reciting the name of the noble Avalokiteshvara and prostrating." Therefore, reciting "Body of white color, unstained by faults" and prostrating is of great benefit. The time for prostration is the Great Miracle Festival, which is when the Teacher subdued the six non-Buddhist teachers; Saga Dawa (Vesak) from the first to the fifteenth; the time of turning the Wheel of Dharma; the fourth day of the Butter Lamp Festival; and the anniversary of the Buddha's descent from the heavens, acknowledging the fifteenth of Yungdrung month; and the twenty-second of Yungdrung month, the day of the Buddha's descent from the heavens. Offering one prostration on these days is equivalent to one hundred million prostrations. When the three times of the Teacher's entering the womb, renouncing, and attaining enlightenment coincide, it is called the time of the three coincidences, which is the fifteenth of Nakshatra month (Birdsong month). One prostration is equivalent to three hundred million. These are all explained in the Vinaya Pitaka and many Sutras, so there is no doubt. Also, the so-called Great Horse Month, which is the first day of Saga Dawa (Vesak), prostrating nine times facing east at sunrise, purifies the sins of one hundred thousand kotis of kalpas. The so-called Kadag Month, which is the ninth day of the summer offering festival, prostrating nine times facing east at noon, purifies the sins of one hundred thousand kotis of kalpas. The so-called Grey Month, which is the sixth day of Gowo Pug month, prostrating nine times facing east at noon, purifies the sins of forty thousand kalpas. The so-called Jabo Month, which is

If one prostrates nine times towards the east on the sixth day of the auspicious month in Pachab Modo (place name), it will purify the sins of forty thousand kalpas. These benefits are mentioned in the Sutra requested by Earth Essence. When prostrating towards the east, it is very important to prostrate while visualizing Vajrasattva and his retinue. At those times, in the Pure Land of Manifest Joy in the east, all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas gather before Buddha Vajrasattva and turn the wheel of Dharma for the benefit of sentient beings, so the benefits are great. This is the difference of time. The difference of person is that one prostration of a pure Brahmin is equal to one hundred thousand prostrations of an ordinary person. Brahmins are not in Tibet, but in India, they follow the religion of Brahma, do not eat meat, do not do any bad things, only do clean things, and offer sacrifices to Brahma. It is said that there is such a caste. One hundred million prostrations of a Brahmin are equal in merit to one prostration of a pure monk. One hundred pure monks are equal in merit to one prostration of a novice monk. One hundred novice monks are equal in merit to one prostration of a pure fully ordained monk. One hundred million prostrations of a pure fully ordained monk are equal in merit to one prostration of a person who has realized the meaning of Mahamudra. Thousands of ordinary people are comparable to one who keeps vows. Thousands of those who keep vows are comparable to one who has wisdom. This is what is said in the sutras. This meaning is also mentioned in the sutras and tantras and in the teachings of King Songtsen Gampo. The difference in the way of prostrating is that prostrating for the benefit of all sentient beings is more meritorious than prostrating for oneself. Prostrating without faith and respect is less meritorious than prostrating with single-minded faith. Prostrating distractedly is less meritorious than prostrating without distraction, visualizing the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in front of you. Even better than that, it is even more meritorious to prostrate without separating from the practice of Mahamudra. The difference of mantra is that the Dharani of Prostration was spoken by the Bhagavan: Namo Manju Shriye, Namah Su Shriye, Namo Uttama Shriye Svaha. (Tibetan: ན་མོ་མཉྫ་ཤྲཱི་ཡེ། ན་མསུ་ཤྲཱི་ཡེ། ན་མོ་ཨུཏྟ་མ་ཤྲཱི་ཡེ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमो मञ्जु श्रिये,नमः सु श्रिये,नमो उत्तमा श्रिये स्वाहा, Sanskrit Romanization: Namo Manju Shriye, Namah Su Shriye, Namo Uttama Shriye Svaha, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to Wonderful Auspiciousness, Homage to Good Auspiciousness, Homage to Supreme Auspiciousness Svaha.) Reciting this mantra three times and then prostrating will transform into one hundred million prostrations. This was also said by Atisha, so...
