A Concise Explanation on Awakening Practice. A Concise Explanation on Awakening Practice. A Concise Explanation on Awakening Practice resides herein. Namo Guru Mahamudra Ye. I prostrate at the feet of the glorious Lama. I will briefly write down the essential instructions for the first Bardo. May the Dakinis of the three places bestow their blessings. The demarcation is as follows: If genuine realization without meditation arises, then when the interdependent origination is complete, it will transform into a rainbow body and go to the realm of the Dakas without leaving any remains of the physical body. Even if the interdependent origination is not complete, since one has become enlightened from the time of being alive, at the time of death, one does not need to grasp the clear light again and obtain the Dharmakaya again. As soon as one's breath ceases, one will appear in the pure realm as the Sambhogakaya, and in all impure realms, the Nirmanakaya will appear according to whatever needs to be tamed. Since these two are enlightened in this life, there is no need to elaborate on whether or not the practice is grasped. Therefore, there are many great accomplished ones in China and Tibet, and the Buddhas, the Bhagavan, and the victorious fathers and sons, do not have the tradition of so-called practice. From the Great One Taste downwards, as soon as the breath ceases, the clear light appears in the first instant. In the second, it is recognized. In the third, it is liberated, and the Great Perfection teachings extensively explain that one becomes enlightened in the duration of three instants. From the Small One Taste downwards, up to Transcendence of Elaborations, if one can remain in one clear light of realization for forty-nine days, then one will realize the One Taste of Clear Light, destroy all obscurations, and become enlightened in that very moment. This is called dying and becoming enlightened as the Dharmakaya. Therefore, even if the duration is short, there are many boundaries of self-realization, and its power and qualities will be perfected. As Drungpa said. Some say that after three days, etc., the practice is not understood, and the consciousness remains for three days and four mornings, etc. However, even if a yogi grasps the clear light and stays in that state for a short time, it is more powerful and virtuous than meditating for years and months during one's lifetime. The Kadampa scriptures explain that ordinary people, after their breath ceases, are frightened by the appearance of the clear light and faint into unconsciousness for three days, or even seven days if their constitution is good. Therefore, there is a great difference between the two ways of staying, and it should be understood. Furthermore, if the clear light is not grasped, it is not that all the meditation is wasted. After the body and mind have separated, the illusions of the Bardo have not

Therefore, it is said that the second clear light will arise in the interval between the risings. If the clear light is not seized, then at the time of the arising of the transformation body in the bardo, first meditate on the deity. Then, by meditating on the clear light, if one can remain in that state for forty-nine days, it is said that one will attain enlightenment in the sambhogakaya. In general, a slight essence and the single-pointed upside-down, etc., make it difficult to seize the clear light of death. It is said that it can be seized during the bardo. The measure of whether or not it is seized is: if one constantly seizes the clear light during sleep now, then there is no need for mental exhortation, and it is seized regardless of whether the circumstances are good or bad and whether the key point is large or small. If one does not seize the clear light of sleep now, but seizes the clear light of dreams, then one will not seize the clear light of death, but will seize it in the bardo. The number of times one seizes it is about once a month, or in general, if one seizes a dream seven times, then one has seized the bardo, as said by Orgyen Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Dakpo Rinpoche (Gampopa) said that the dream state is less clear than the present, but the bardo is clearer than the present, so even if one does not seize the dream, one will seize the bardo. It is said that even seeing a little bit of the nature of mind now is considered seizing it. Although there are many instructions on the introduction to the stages of dissolution, according to the views of the Kagyu lineage such as Götsangpa, without much embellishment, by placing the practice in its own state, it is said that one will be able to seize it. In the Great Liberation Through Hearing in the Bardo, it says: For those who have good understanding but have not truly realized it, and for those who have realized it but have little familiarity, and for ordinary individuals who have experienced the key point instructions, by introducing them in this way, one will attain the dharmakaya of the ground clear light, and attain non-birth. Therefore, in reality, if one repeatedly seizes the clear light of dreams and sleep, even without exhortation, if the circumstances at the time of death are good, one will seize it. If the circumstances at the time of death are good, and there is a skilled exhortation of the mind, if one is exhorted to seize the key point in time, even seeing a little bit of the nature of mind, one will definitely seize it, because it is also clear in the lineage of vision. Nowadays, some say that if one seizes the mind through the generation stage alone, it will become stable. Even if one sees such a situation, one cannot conclude that one has seized the clear light, and if one clings to this, it is clear that there will be great faults. Similarly, if one clings to the bliss-clarity-non-thought of calm abiding, there may also be deviations. Some say that there is no possibility of deviation in the ground clear light, but if one falls into deviation, one also needs to apply exhortation, because it is explained in the introduction to the bardo clear light of the Six Yogas, so one should be careful in one's practice.
