A Written Record of Oral Instructions Needed for the Common Ground of New and Old Secret Mantras A Written Record of Oral Instructions Needed for the Common Ground of New and Old Secret Mantras A Written Record of Oral Instructions Needed for the Common Ground of New and Old Secret Mantras. Homage to guru ananta vijaye. The root of blessings is the Lama, the root of accomplishments is the Yidam, and the root of activities is the Dakini. These three are called the Three Roots. For each of the complete rituals such as self-generation, front-generation, vase, etc., the New Schools call it "ritual," while the Old Schools call it "activity practice." For each complete manifestation and realization of the Dharma protectors, the New Schools call it "Torma ritual," while the Old Schools call it "Torma offering." The way of reciting them includes the Indian way, the way of the great monasteries in Tibet, and the ritual of any Yidam. Except for the ritual of one Dharma protector related to it, there is no other way of reciting. Until that subsequent ritual is finished, one should not mix in others. It is the same when practicing the approach and accomplishment of one deity. During the session breaks, other commitments should also be done. For rituals of healing and fulfillment, etc., first invoke a root Yidam, and then recite many Yidams and Dharma protectors. Then, Guru Rinpoche said, "In the mandala of one Victorious One, the activities of all Victorious Ones are accomplished. In the practice of one Sugata." This is the meaning of what was said. There are two ways of reciting this: Meditate by transforming the place with self-generation in an instant. Meditating on the front-generation in order is due to the lack of mastery of the generation stage. If the generation stage is mastered, then it is permissible to meditate on many self-generations and many front-generations. That is, for daily practice, self-generation is the most important. Meditate on the front-generation being included within the protection circle of the self-generation. During practice, if there is a mandala in front, meditate on the self-generation being included within the protection circle of the front-generation. That is, when self-generation is the most important, outside the east side of the self-generation mandala, in the space between the charnel ground and the lotus, meditate on the mandalas of the front-generation and the Dharma protectors. If the root Yidam is established as self-generation and not withdrawn, then outside the west side of the main mandala, in the charnel ground and lotus, meditate on many self-generations arranged in a row.

The fire mountain is like an iron wall, which is frightening. The outer stone wall and fire mountain of the root mandala are like an egg, without gaps, wide and vast. The vajra ground below is made of diamond, as smooth as leather. The vajra stands out like a painting. The vajra fence is like the iron fence of a monastery. The vajra tent is like setting up a tent inside the iron fence. The vajra net is like the ribs of a Mongolian yurt inside the tent. The vajra awning is like drawing an awning inside the tent. Also, when the visualization of the front generation mandala is the main thing, outside the east gate of the front generation mandala, it is done in the cemetery and lotus pond. All the self-generation mandalas are visualized in a row. Outside the west side of the front generation mandala, in the cemetery and lotus pond, the front generation mandalas are all visualized in a row. Whichever of the two is done, above the walls and bricks of the self-generation and front generation mandalas, below the arrow shaft, the space between the net and the half-net is empty, so in between them the self-generation and front generation mandalas face each other. Then, between the self-generation and front generation mandalas, rays of light are emitted and absorbed. From where are these things said? From the teachings of Orgyen (Guru Rinpoche) such as the Mind Accomplishment, it says: "Outside, in the surrounding outer courtyard, the self-protecting deities and vidyadharas, the dakinis, dharma protectors, and oath-bound ones." This is what it means. What is the need to do it this way? In this way, many mandalas and many offering rituals are taken out at the same time, and if the food offerings, replenishments, and supplications are done at the same time, if the assembly of the root yidam is done, it is equivalent to doing the assembly of all of them. Then, after inviting and abiding for one food offering, it is permissible to make food offerings to all the dharma protectors. This is the custom of the Anuttarayoga. The subsequent rituals should not be performed before the end of the retreat or when leaving. If it is done, it is okay, but do not perform the sending away of the deities. The subsequent rituals and sending away of the deities of the three tantras of Kriya, Charya, and Yoga below Kunrig must be performed every day. If it is not done, the fault of imprisoning the deities will occur. The custom of the Nyingma and Anuttarayoga is that if the front generation mandala and vase mandala have a support, they are absorbed into the statue, and if not, the deities are sent away. In Anuttarayoga, the deities of the front and vase mandalas are not gathered until the practice is finished. Both are self-generated.
