In order to abandon the obscurations of the five poisonous emotions, there is the great peacock, the antidote to poison, as the supporting Dharma. (ཉི) From the Instructions of the Mountain Dharma Retreat. The supporting Dharma is the great peacock, the antidote to poison, which resides here as a method for abandoning, subduing, transforming, recognizing the nature of the five poisons, and taking them onto the path. Homage to Shakyamuni Buddha! Homage to the Buddha who truly proclaimed the all-knowing, perfectly complete Buddha! Homage to Lama Karma Tsondu Gyatso! Alas, no matter what I do, these five poisons cannot be liberated in emptiness. Please, with compassion, grant profound instructions so that I am not controlled by these five poisons. In response to that statement, saying: Abandoning the five poisons, subduing them with antidotes, recognizing their nature, and taking them onto the path, there are four methods. First, the meaning of the Four Noble Truths, the wheel of Dharma, is that because one has faith in the infallibility of cause and effect, one abandons them by remembering their faults. In this life and in future lives, the greatest thing that one does not want to come is suffering. The cause of the arising of suffering is non-virtue. Whatever misdeeds are committed that are instigated by the five poisons, those are non-virtuous, therefore one should abandon them. Because suffering definitely arises from non-virtue, that suffering is experienced by the truly existing body. That is called the Truth of Suffering. From the five poisons, all non-virtue arises. That is called the Truth of the Origin. If one prevents the five poisons, one will attain the grounds and paths of liberation. That is called the Truth of Cessation. By traversing the grounds and paths, one attains the fruit of Arhatship. That is called the Truth of the Path, which gathers at the root of the meaning of the turning of the wheel of Dharma in Varanasi. It is said that the result of desire is rebirth as a hungry ghost, hatred is hell, and ignorance is the cause of animals. Jealousy is Asura, pride is gods and humans. In the three lower realms, suffering is unbearable. Even if one is happy in the higher realms, it is temporary and quickly becomes a cause of suffering. Birth, old age, sickness, and death are countless, and there is no time for liberation. The root of that is the five poisons, therefore one should abandon them. Even if one can now endure the thoughts of the five poisons, one cannot endure the suffering of samsara in the lower realms. Therefore, even if the five poisons arise, one should endure and control them.

Like the strict laws of a powerful king, If one transgresses the Vinaya established by the Buddha, the King of Dharma, There is a punishment of experiencing suffering in the lower realms For hundreds of thousands of millions of lifetimes. Although death is common in this world, Breaking vows is a hundred thousand times worse than that. A person who keeps their vows, even if they die, is not really dead, Because they can immediately take a good body. To be attached to beautiful forms and break vows Is like dust settling on the flame of a butter lamp. It is the same as jumping into the dust. To be attached to the pleasure of disturbing sexual desire Is like laying dry grass on top of a great fire, And falling asleep thinking it is a comfortable place to sleep. Breaking the vows of food, such as meat, alcohol, onions, and garlic, Is like licking honey from the tip of a razor. No matter how evil a worldly enemy may be, They can only take this life and its possessions, But they cannot take away the happiness of many lifetimes. The merit that has been accumulated for hundreds of eons, All the merit and virtue is destroyed by a single act of anger. Therefore, it is extremely important to abandon this enemy. A bee, attached to honey, Gets stuck in the honey and dies. Likewise, being attached to the happiness of this life, One is bound to samsara and has no time to be liberated. Therefore, one should have few desires and be content. The sleep of ignorance is the thief of virtue, Even if one lives for a hundred years, fifty are spent sleeping like a corpse. It is said that there are twenty faults of sleep. Therefore, one should sleep lightly and strive for virtue. Because one does not know oneself, and the power of ignorance is strong, One speaks of what is not Dharma as Dharma, And denigrates the Dharma as not Dharma. It is like passing judgment without food. One should abandon this meaningless and great sinful action. Thinking that cause and effect, benefits and faults, etc., Are not true and are just lies, This wrong view is great ignorance. One should abandon this evil deed for which there is no confession. Desiring to elevate oneself and being jealous of others, Slandering the Bodhisattvas, The Buddha said that it is more sinful than killing sentient beings in the three realms. One should abandon this evil deed born of jealousy. Thinking, "I am a pure person with vows and pure morality, I am different from ordinary monks with attachments," By that, one's own morality becomes impure. That is the meaning of Entering the Middle Way.
