Then blend with all the Buddhas, likewise blend with one and all sentient beings. The minds of all Victorious Ones and the minds of all beings, realizing the inseparability of one's own mind brings great benefit. To meditate with an object and to understand that understanding is all-encompassing, if one truly realizes this from the depths, that is the view. However, there are still many times of distraction and forgetfulness. Likewise, because of forgetting death and impermanence, it causes the weakening of diligence. In the four directions inside one's own retreat room, with white earth, ink, or lime, whichever is convenient, write large characters saying "Death" and large characters saying "Do not be distracted." No matter which direction one looks, one should see them. I have seen such customs in Ü-Tsang (Central and Western Tibet) with my own eyes. Likewise, remember death and impermanence, and remember to look at the nature of the mind after remembering death. Even if a state of non-distraction arises at the very time when intense bliss arises, it can only last for months at most, and cannot be permanent. Realized realization has very many times of distraction. When remembering, regret arises, thinking, "I have been distracted." Thinking about when one was distracted, one investigates. After that, one does not want to maintain the uncomfortable thought. To remove that fault, from the time of remembering, all the thoughts that have gone into distraction become conceptual thoughts. As if placing them in the heart and looking back, by looking at their nature, emptiness is self-liberated. In this way, it is said that the mind is satisfied and helpful. The Peerless Dagpo Lhaje said, "If you realize the nature, then the conceptual thoughts of a slightly distracted time cannot obscure it." Such a time when there is no distraction at all, this will not happen before one has not meditated and not realized. It is clearly stated in Marpa's instructions on the inseparability of wind and mind. Nowadays, most of those who say they have no distraction seem to be non-distracted during times of bliss. The reason why such real non-distraction does not arise is because the mind has never rested in equanimity, therefore it is said to be a Dharma that is not mixed with the Buddhas. Distraction and non-distraction, remembering and not remembering, sleeping and not sleeping, there is no difference in meaning, its nature is emptiness, the naked Dharmakaya. Not remembering distraction does not become bad, and remembering and meditating does not become good. Like the unchanging Sale Bhrum gold, this realization is the realization of one's own nature. If one only has a slight understanding of this, and then abandons virtuous actions, it turns into the work of demons.

Ur! Even if you gain confidence that there is no difference between distraction and non-distraction, it is said that you should repeatedly and profoundly remind yourself with mindfulness. The meaning of this is that before Dagpo met Milarepa, he practiced meditation without understanding, and it is said that he wasted his efforts. The meaning of this is clearly explained in the answers given by Phagdru. The instruction manuals and lamas have all said this. By conforming to your own experience, you will find peace of mind. At that time, the great power of the union of shamatha and vipashyana will arise. Some people experience bliss, and their body and mind increase with happiness. There is not even a moment of distraction during the day. There is certainty and great joy in the mind. Likewise, the mind is clearly and emptily nakedly manifest. Clear and naked, possessing certainty and confidence. Most of the time when sleeping, one goes into that state. Thinking that others do not have this kind of realization, one becomes arrogant and conceited as the best of the realized ones. If these two experiences are faults and are not destroyed before meditating, it is like holding brass thinking it is gold. How should these two experiences be destroyed? The stable certainty itself must be destroyed. That certainty is conceptual thought. Conceptual thought is the cause of ignorance and samsara. Mahamudra is non-conceptual wisdom. Therefore, in the words of the previous Kagyu masters, there are many who know how to meditate, but few who know how to destroy. The meaning of what they said is also in this. So, what should meditation be like? Is it the awakening of karmic connections from previous lives, or the result of accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, or the blessing received through the power of devotion, or the accomplishment of the yidam practice, whatever it is, inexplicably, even you find it funny. The good qualities of previous experiences and realizations suddenly emerge. Destroy all existing certainties from the depths. There is no clinging to what is to be meditated on or who is meditating. Like the ordinary mind when one has not heard the Dharma, Mahamudra is spontaneously realized, Ah, ah, it turns out to be this. Being deceived by what the lama has not said, one does not realize it and goes through it confusedly. Now there is nothing to meditate on, and it seems that just sitting quietly is enough. Then the mind becomes like resting. The so-called primordial awareness, as well as the three great inexpressibles, unreachable by the mind, free from elaboration, etc., are all names for it. From the repeated reminders of the mindfulness watchman, without distraction, one experiences that there is nothing to do.
