Chapter Twenty-six: The Practice of Mahayoga, Primarily Focusing on the Generation Stage. There is the Sound of Mantra Thunder, the General Accomplishment of Yidam. (La) From the Oral Instructions of Mountain Dharma Retreat: The Outer Practice of the General Yidam and Dakini of the New and Old Supreme Secret Mantras, called the Sound of Mantra Thunder, is hereby presented. Namo Guru Deva Dakini Sarva Siddhi Hum. (Tibetan: ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་དེ་ཝ་ཌཱ་ཀི་ནཱི་སརྦ་སིདྡྷི་ཧཱུྃ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमो गुरु देव डाकिनी सर्व सिद्धि हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: namo guru deva ḍākinī sarva siddhi hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Homage to गुरु Guru (Teacher), देव Deva (Deity), डाकिनी Dakini (Sky Dancer), सर्व Sarva (All), सिद्धि Siddhi (Accomplishment), हुं Hūṃ.) For all the New and Old Supreme Tantras, it is crucial to know the key points of practice and the stages of visualization. A mountain dweller who has received empowerment and knows the methods of practice should initially engage in outer practice. Aside from cave torma, inner offering, the five offerings, and the damaru and bell, only a preliminary torma is needed; other practice materials such as mandalas are not required. One preliminary torma each day is sufficient. The term "session" refers to starting the ritual. After reciting the mantra and before dissolving the self-generation deity, one should not speak during that time. Speaking between sessions is the practice of the New School. Maintaining silence until the practice is completed is the practice of the Old School. At the end of the session, the torma is offered and dedicated. The torma guests are also absorbed into the Three Jewels. If not, there is also the practice of absorbing them into oneself. Then, the outer world and inner beings dissolve into light as the palace. The palace dissolves into light and merges into the retinue deities... If there are no retinue deities and only the main deity, it is said that the outer world and inner beings dissolve into light and merge into the palace. Visualize dissolving into light and merging into oneself. Note. Visualize the retinue deities dissolving into light and merging into oneself. Oneself also dissolves into light and merges into the seed syllable at the heart. The seed syllable dissolves upwards into the nada. (Tibetan: ནཱ་ད་ནི།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नाद, Sanskrit Romanization: nāda, Literal Chinese Meaning: Sound.) As small as a fraction of a hair tip split into a hundred parts. Hold the mind there for a long time. This is the most profound method of shamatha meditation. Then, that also dissolves into emptiness. Do not bind yourself by clinging to the idea of emptiness. Leave the mind without any manipulation, relaxed and at ease. That is the most profound method of vipassana meditation. For beginners, it is impossible to unite the generation and completion stages, so the amount of time spent practicing the generation stage should be followed by the practice of shamatha and vipassana, according to Naropa Pandita. Then, like a rainbow appearing in the sky, or like a fish leaping in clear water, one is the main deity.

After meditating on the absence of something, what should be done during the breaks between sessions? Again, the way to hold the session is the same as before, because the new practitioners are not clear about the generation stage, so increasing the number of sessions is to clearly manifest the generation stage. Morning, forenoon, noon, and evening are four sessions. Dusk and dawn are six sessions. This is clearly explained in the great commentaries such as the Chakrasamvara. After getting used to that, then do five sessions, four sessions during the day and one session at night. After getting used to that, three sessions during the day and four sessions at night. After getting used to that, two sessions during the day and three sessions at night. If you are very accustomed, one session during the day and two sessions at night. There is no way to have fewer sessions than that for practice. In general, for any deity practice, according to the new tradition, the recitation and practice have four branches: recitation, near recitation, practice, and great practice. According to the old tradition, there are three: recitation, practice, and activity. In reality, the meaning is the same, and all must be complete. If in one's own heart there is a peaceful deity such as Amitayus or Avalokiteśvara Padmasambhava, who are differentiated by peacefulness and wrathfulness, then in the heart, visualize their respective seed syllables on top of a lotus and moon. On top of the lotus, sun, and moon discs, if practicing wrathful deities such as Vajravarahi, Senge Dongma, or wrathful Guru, then in the heart, visualize the sun on top of the lotus, and on top of that, their respective seed syllables, unmoving, like a needle stuck on a cushion. This is oral instruction, also as a side note. Any seed syllable should be upright and stable, with the top of the letter facing forward. This is the rule of the old tradition, and there is no mistake. The new tradition says that what the eye sees is the front of the letter, but that is not correct. The Geshes who speak of epistemology say that the form of the letter is not the letter; the letter is sound, the object of the ear. It is impossible for the eye to see the letter. Such terminology is not appropriate here. Secret mantra uses form as the path, for example, emptiness, Dharmakaya, Great Bliss Mother, appearing in the form of Vajravarahi. At the end of the seed syllable, for male deities, starting from the front, the face of the letter is turned outward, written from the left, completing the front, right, and end. For example, like the surrounding of the letter A. For female deities, circling from the front to the right, the face of the mantra is turned inward and written. Writing is called "བཀོད" and circling is called "བསྐོར", these two.
