Thus, when creating the mandala, To the one holding the radiant diadem, Whose golden footprint is blessed, Along with the volumes of Dharma composed by you, I offer them and prostrate nine times. I also offer one hundred and eight mandalas. At that time, Raga Asya said, "Hey, Hey, Diligent Ocean! The essence of the mountain Dharma, As spoken by the Kagyu forefathers, is to abandon the activities of this life, and in the sacred mountains, far from home, to be startled by impermanence and death, to sacrifice food, clothing, and conversation, to drink water, chew stones, and wear rags, and to cultivate the nature of one's own mind, doing nothing else. Beyond the three lines of the Guru's supplication, do nothing to recite or accomplish. Beyond waiting for the Lord of Death to come, do nothing to think about. If faithful patrons should appear, flee to empty, silent places, as if a wild deer were unseen by a mute woman. This is the mountain Dharma of the Kagyu intent. You are a Dharma practitioner carried by the wind, free from illness! I am unable to do such things, so I have stayed long in the land of my birth. The place is named Mila because of me. I am surrounded by relatives, nephews, and monks. I have never spent a single night alone. I was sold to the monastery at the age of eight. Now I have horses and livestock in the corral. Because death does not pierce my heart, I only have a large house in a sacred hermitage. Therefore, I have no way to compose mountain Dharma. If I were to imitate the words of the Kagyu, all who know would be ashamed. It would be like the nose being ashamed of the mouth's words. Even if I were to preach Dharma that I have not practiced myself, who would believe it? Therefore, I have no way to compose mountain Dharma." Having spoken thus, Diligent Ocean, after contemplating for a day, again made a request, saying, "Guru Raga Asya, from a young age, you took ordination and kept the precepts. You relied on many great and small Gurus. You are rich in empowerments, transmissions, and instructions of both the New and Old traditions. Even when you performed village ceremonies in your youth, you engaged in immeasurable retreats in between. After that, for thirteen years, you completed your vows of practice. From many earth treasures and sky Dharmas, you received prophecies as a fortunate Dharma lord. For seven years, your activities spread in all directions. Many great and small bowed and honored you. Now you have made a vow of life-long retreat. Therefore, I ask you to grant me mountain Dharma that is in accordance with your past experiences. Even if I were to speak of austerities greater than these, I would find it difficult to.

Not entering the path! That Dharma which is not entered, is the cause of the heavy burden of books. Please grant the essential instructions that will surely lead to entering the path! Thus spoke Raga Asya. Short days, many practices to be done. Without even looking at a single book of the basis of compositions such as mountain Dharma, many rituals of protection and turning back, and many stages of contemplation, although there was no time to think, whatever was spoken spontaneously during each evening session, Lama Tsezhung Gyatso, with the faith and aspiration that it was profound Dharma, wore a great armor of patience against the thin clothes and the New Year's cold wind. Placing his finger on the horse of the wind, he finished writing in the order he spoke. It was written in the order of the lineages. Because there is no scriptural authority from the sutras and tantras, scholars do not look or listen. However, I think that the sutras and tantras are not contrary to anything that is valid. Because there are no loud empty words, profound realizations do not look or listen. However, I think that there is no fault of falling into wrong places. Because there is no poetic composition, although the limbs of the composition are incomplete, I think it is beneficial to the mind. If this is practiced properly, although one may not become a so-called accomplished one, I think one will go on the path to enlightenment. Therefore, I wrote without being stingy with ink, paper, and pen. From the oral instructions of the mountain retreat Dharma, the introduction part, this is the first. Namo Guru! Lama Tsezhung Gyatso, if you are determined to go to the mountains, if you are determined to take the essence of the body, if you are determined to make human life meaningful, if you are determined to have no regrets at the time of death, if you are determined not to fear death, if you are determined to have no bardo, if you are determined to accomplish the happiness of the future, if you are determined to go from happiness to happiness, if you are determined to accomplish the desire for constant happiness, if you want to attain ultimate Buddhahood, keep my heart words in mind. In hundreds of thousands of millions of kalpas, obtaining a human body is only once. This time is the beginning of a hundred years. Make human life meaningful. In countless hundreds of thousands of kalpas, there is not even the sound of the Buddha's Dharma. This time you are born in a good kalpa. Even if a thousand Buddhas appear, the teachings will be hidden for a long time in between. This time you have met the teachings of Shakya. In many countries of the Jambudvipa world, the sacred Dharma has disappeared in places other than Tibet. This time you are born in the land of snows.
