In the time of the mother, the great Bodhisattva Rangjung Dorje (3rd Karmapa, 1284-1339). When building an iron bridge over the river in Sok, you intermediate ministers could not bear it, and sent down earthquakes, mountain tremors, thunder, and hail. At that time, the Bodhisattva, with great compassionate wrath, tied iron chains to the hard rock with his hands, subdued them with majesty, and made vows. At that time, they promised to protect the Dharma, offering nagas, conch shells, horns, and other things. Will you unfailingly protect the Buddha's teachings? Will you unfailingly protect the followers of Guru Rinpoche? Will you unfailingly receive the command-offering torma? Will you unfailingly accomplish the activities of yoga? Without transgressing the vows of the past, please accept this torma of command-substances, and accomplish the activities entrusted to the yogi. Hūṃ. Thereafter, in the degenerate age of the five hundred, the unchanging Vajra, the player of power (Mikyo Dorje, 8th Karmapa, 1507-1554), when opening the mandala of the mind of the Sky Dharma, all of you worldly gods and demons showed your forms and offered the essence of your lives, making a pledge to protect the Sky Dharma teachings. To the treasure minister of the Sky Dharma, the lord of Dharma, show signs and dreams, forms and emanations. To all the Sangha disciples and lineage holders, promise to avoid harm and give help, not just with words, but offering vows from the heart. You gods of the pure realms of the world, the language of the gods never lies, please enjoy this torma of vow-substances, and never cause harm or opposition, please accomplish the activities I entrust to you. If it is peaceful, offer it in the direction of abiding; if it is wrathful, offer it in the direction of harm. This was spoken immediately by Rāga Asya, and Padma Tharphen wrote it down. Maṅgalaṃ! Maṅgalaṃ!
