The history and benefits of the Peaceful and Wrathful Hundred Deities Mandala. The history and benefits of the Peaceful and Wrathful Hundred Deities Mandala. The history and benefits of the Peaceful and Wrathful Hundred Deities Mandala reside herein. Now, to briefly recount the history of this mandala: In the beginning, when there was no distinction between Buddhas and sentient beings, all sentient beings grasped at "I" where there was no "I," and grasped at "self" where there was no self. They did not recognize their own face and wandered in samsara. Lord Samantabhadra, without ever having been deluded, manifestly awakened in the original ground, and is thus called the first Buddha of all Buddhas. He abides in the perfectly endowed Dharmakaya realm, with the perfectly endowed teacher, Samantabhadra; the perfectly endowed retinue, the assembly of the ocean of wisdom; the perfectly endowed time, the moment of the unchanging nature of reality; and the perfectly endowed Dharma, the self-existing, spontaneously accomplished state of the Great Perfection, naturally luminous. Without moving from that state, in the pure, densely arrayed realm, in the light-house jewel palace made of the self-radiance of wisdom, from the self-radiance of the five wisdoms of Lord Samantabhadra appear the five families; from the self-radiance of the five perfectly pure elements, the five consorts; from the self-radiance of the eight perfectly pure consciousnesses, the eight bodhisattvas; from the self-radiance of the eight perfectly pure objects, the eight female bodhisattvas; and from the self-radiance of the four extremes and four birthplaces, the eight gatekeepers, male and female. From the bodies of these deities also emanate inconceivable bodies of the five families. In the immeasurable pure realms of the Sambhogakaya, such as Abhirati and others, all the complete assemblies of peaceful deities appear without separation, like the sun and its rays, due to the principle of the transference of the main deity. They are arranged beautifully like a brocade tent spread out, blazing with five colors. From the rays of their tongues, the six syllables At that time, in the perfectly endowed, densely arrayed realm, the perfectly endowed teacher is the five families of Buddhas, surrounded by a perfectly endowed retinue of immeasurable Buddhas, and the perfectly endowed time is the inconceivable nature of reality.

At that time, with the perfect Dharma, he demonstrates the meaning of the wisdom light, which is beyond words; with his unceasing compassion and self-power, in the realm of the six types of beings, he appears as the six Thubpas (Buddhas), and teaches the Dharma in their respective languages. Thus, the Dharmakaya Kuntuzangpo (Samantabhadra) abides spontaneously and perfectly, pervading all Samsara and Nirvana. The peaceful deities such as the Five Families, outwardly, abide in the five pure realms with their retinues. Inwardly, they abide in the pure place of the precious heart-mind, in the form of the five essential bindus (drops). Furthermore, the construction and arrangement of the peaceful and wrathful mandala is like the reflection in a mirror and the moon in water. Thus, whoever remembers the Buddha, the Thubpa abides before him. So it is said. If the peaceful deities are like this, how do the wrathful deities arise? In the past, ignorant beings did not understand the true meaning of the secret mantra, and practiced karma and its results in a confused manner, wandering in the eight hot hells, sixteen cold hells, and countless evil realms. When their karmic obscurations were slightly reduced, they became fierce and violent great Yaksha demons, with one body having hundreds of heads and various kinds of heads; hundreds of bodies having one head; various bodies; Possessing many different limbs; holding various cruel weapons, with extremely numerous retinues, possessing various terrifying forms and terrifying roars; disturbing the directions with black winds, hot air, and cold breaths; with the power to inflict four hundred and four diseases, causing people to become intoxicated and weakened; with this power, even the gods, nagas, asuras, and the great blissful heavenly abodes were brought under their control. In order to subdue them, the Vajra master of body, speech, and mind of all the Tathagatas, manifested the mandala of wrathful deities; from the realm of Suchness, arose the wrathful mother, the Queen of the Dharmadhatu, and from the secret space of embrace, emerged the mandala of wrathful deities filling the three thousand worlds; all the worlds shook, and eighteen great omens appeared. Even the great powerful Ishvara and others, who had great authority and power in the world, fainted. Then, the Bhagavan himself transformed into a burning blood-drinker, with a dark purplish-black body that changed in various ways, possessing countless heads, hands, and feet, as numerous as the dust in the fields of space. Again, he manifested three heads.
