The road was blocked. Feeling nauseous, he covered his nose and walked away, skirting the edge of his clothes. The leper disappeared, and a voice sounded in the sky, saying, "Because you are bound by conceptual thoughts, it is difficult to find the guru." Even though the guru's emanation was there, he didn't recognize it and regretted it. Then, he prayed and continued on his way. On a narrow path, even though a dog was covered in insects, he saw it biting others out of anger. He thought, "Sentient beings are impure," and walked away. The dog disappeared, and a formless voice sounded, saying, "For everything that is originally pure, because you cling to good and bad, you will not find the guru." Now, he thought, "From now on, no matter who I meet, I will ask about the guru," and he went on his way. He met a person and asked if he had seen Tilopa. That person said, "A little past here, that guru is not doing birds, but is striving." Hearing this, he continued on and saw a person beating another in order to kill him. He asked that person if he had seen Tilopa, and that person said, "This person has cut off the head, look." He said, "I am a pandita, I cannot do this." That person immediately disappeared, and a formless voice sounded, "If you have not cut off the head of self-grasping with the sword of wisdom, you will not find the guru." He thought, "I did not recognize the emanation," and regretted it, and then said. A person was not killing someone, but was pulling out intestines. He asked that person if he had seen Tilopa, and that person said, "Please help me pull out the intestines, look." He said, "I am a monk, I cannot do this." In that instant, that person disappeared, and a voice sounded, "If you have not cut the rope of samsara, you will not find the guru." Then, he went to the bank of a great river and saw a person washing human entrails. He asked that person if he had seen Tilopa, and that person said, "First, please help me wash the entrails." He said, "I feel nauseous, I do not want to wash them." A voice sounded, "If you do not wash away afflictions, you will not find the guru." That person immediately disappeared. Alas! Even though he met many emanations of the guru, he did not recognize them, and he thought, "Even so, I will continue to search," and he left. In the center of a vast and beautiful city, he went to see a king who possessed the Dharma. He said, "I am a pandita from Nalanda, I have been searching for the guru Tilopa, but I have not found him and I am tired. King, please guide me." The king said, "There is no need to see Tilopa. I have a daughter with endless enjoyments, I offer her to you, please rest for a while." After doing so, even a child was born, and he was happy.

A wicked person killed the king's two young daughters. The king also punished him severely. I intended to seek a great guru, but the king hindered me and created obstacles to Dharma practice. Now I think, I must use the power of fierce mantras to eliminate the king and the murderer. By secluding myself in a small practice room and reciting mantras, I will not find a guru by practicing with the three poisons. A voice said, "You are deceived by illusions." The king and the entire country disappeared. Afterwards, on the way back, I encountered a hunter chasing a wild animal. When asked about Tilopa, the hunter said, "Help me kill it." Thinking he was a monk, but that person disappeared. A voice said, "If you do not kill the clinging wild animal, you will not find the guru, monks must beg for food." Afterwards, the Pandit came to a place where monks gathered. The monks said, "Please go over there for a moment, we need to welcome the great Pandit." Even if they treat me with hospitality, I am not happy. When asked if they had seen the guru Tilopa, someone pointed the way and said, "There is a Tilopa called Mutopa." When he went to find him, he saw an ugly old beggar at the crossroads, eating begged food from a broken bowl. After bowing and circumambulating, the monks said, "Is this Pandit crazy?" That beggar handed him a handful of lice and said, "Put this in the fire and burn it." Hesitating slightly, the lice disappeared like a rainbow. If you don't burn away the discriminating thoughts, how can you find the guru? A voice said, "Go to the seashore to kill fish." So he went to the seashore. He encountered an old monk and two old nuns, as well as their sons and daughters plowing the field, and one person cutting grass. When asked about Tilopa, he said, "I don't know Tilopa. Come to my house first and have lunch." When he brought seven live fish on a plate, thinking that this could not be a Pandit, those people disappeared, and such a voice came: "Because of discriminating thoughts, it is difficult to find the guru. Now go kill your parents." Afterwards, as he walked, he encountered a wicked person, the father was placed on a bright wooden stake, and the mother was imprisoned in a dark pit. When asked about Tilopa, that person said, "I know him, help me kill my parents first." No.
