The biography of Naropa. The biography of Naropa. Namo Guru Jñana Siddhiye. This supreme Vajrayana path, merely by pleasing the guru, is well accomplished; concerning this principle, I will briefly summarize and explain it here. In the eastern part of India, in the land of Bhagala, in the city of Shri Nagarara, in Jambudvipa, there was a king named Geva Gocha (Virtuous Armor), and a queen named Palgyi Lodro (Glorious Wisdom), and they had a princess named Palgyi Yeshe (Glorious Knowledge). Because they had no son, they strived to find a way to pass on the kingdom. At that time, to have a son, they performed 108 rituals, and when the king and fifteen consorts were together, a son was born, and flowers rained down, and many auspicious signs appeared. At that time, a Brahmin astrologer said, "All the marks of the previous prince, Don Drub (Accomplishing Meaning), are complete in this child," and he spoke many praises. He was named Pal Kuntu Geva (Glorious All-Virtuous). After that, he was raised and grew up, and when he reached adulthood, he sang songs about the meaninglessness of samsara, and asked his father to renounce the world. His father dissuaded him, saying that he must rule the kingdom. After singing songs about the meaninglessness of ruling the kingdom, he went to Kashmir and took the five fundamental vows. He became extremely proficient in all fields of knowledge and was known as Pandit Panam Namkhai Nyingpo (Pandit Space Essence). After that, surrounded by the retinue of a pandit, he returned to his own country, and his father was also pleased. After that, unable to disobey his father's command, he married a Brahmin girl named Drime Ma (Immaculate Mother), who was outstanding in lineage, beauty, and youth. After that, in order to fulfill his father's wishes and to extensively explain the meaninglessness of samsara, he said to the queen, "I want to renounce the world, what should I do about that?" After hearing this, the virtuous queen respectfully replied, "By the power of past merit, I have met you. Other than you, my mind will not waver, and because you wish to do so, I will not obstruct the Dharma. Please show me that you are displeased with me, and I will also transform into bad behavior." After saying this, she also performed countless songs and dances. At that time, all the king's ministers were angry with her. She also returned to her own home and renounced the world. After that, the prince went to the Joyful Grove. The Khenpo was Sangye Kyong (Buddha Protector), and the Acharya was Yeshe Wo (Wisdom Light), and he took the vows of a novice monk. He was named Sangye Yeshe (Buddha Wisdom). After that, he went to Kashmir and took the vows of a fully ordained monk. Dharma

He was named 'Banner of Victory'. Then he taught and practiced in Pulavari. He was known as 'Holder of the Doctrine of the Abiding One'. At that time, at the northern gate of Nalanda, he was placed on the seat of the deceased gatekeeper Great Pandit. Inner and outer pandits were arranged on the left and right. First, with the inner Buddhist pandits, he debated, and only the Abiding One was victorious. Everyone prostrated and placed his lotus feet on their heads. Then, with the outer pandits, he debated, destroying all and incorporating them into the inner path. This one is fearless to all, inner and outer, and was named Glorious Fearless Fame. After that, the activities of generating the mind, empowerment, and teaching the Dharma were constantly performed. For a while, while he was looking at a book, an old woman with many ugly features said, 'Do you understand the meaning or the words of the book you are looking at?' When he said he understood the words, she showed a happy expression. When he said he understood the meaning, the woman became very angry. 'Then, who is more knowledgeable about meaning than me?' After saying this, she revealed a young and beautiful form and disappeared, saying, 'My brother understands the meaning, pray to him, go, and you will find him.' After that, he sang a song about the meaninglessness of samsara, and when he set out to find a guru, the Great Pandit Ratna Akara of the Eastern Gate, the Lord of Speech of the South, the Hidden Source of Wisdom of the West, and all the Sangha of Nalanda, prostrated and requested him to stay. At that time, other people said, 'With many lion throne attendants, Jewel Source, Peaceful One, and so on, such a great pandit who is prostrated and bowed to by many pandits is difficult to find. Why is such a person looking for a guru?' Without listening to their advice, relying on Hevajra, when he went to search for a guru for a long time, a prophecy sound came from the pure sky: 'Seek from the gate of Chakrasamvara and you will find him.' After that, in the great charnel ground of Nagarara, he built a hut and recited the seven-syllable mantra hundreds of thousands of times. The earth shook, rainbows appeared, music played, and pleasant fragrances spread. A voice said, 'In the east, go and look for Tilopa who resides there.' After that, although he went everywhere in the east, he could not find him, became discouraged, and doubted the prophecy. At that time, a voice came from the sky: 'Diligence will lead to finding, laziness will not.' Again he went forward, and on a narrow cliff, he met a leper woman.
