Furthermore, attachment, and merely separation (familiarity is from the beginning up to the peak of existence, those previously attained that are abandoned), unfamiliarity is attained through effort, because they arise from the power of habit and non-habit. Moreover, the four liberations called formless and the two exhaustions are dependent on the three realms. The remaining of these (the first three liberations, the eight overcomings, the eight exhaustions), nineteen in total, are born from humans and are solely dependent on humans, because there is no teaching in other beings such as gods, and these are to be generated by the power of teaching. So, since there is no teaching, how do the formless meditations arise in the upper two realms (each of their upper realms)? The absorption of formless meditation generally arises from the four powers of teaching, cause, action, and nature, but in those upper two realms, even without teaching, the absorption of formless arises from the two powers of cause and action. Among these, arising in the form realm from the power of cause refers to those who previously, relying on a human basis, were accustomed to formless absorption and then declined, being born in the form realm. There, because of the proximity of possessing the power of the cause of shared fate from previous habituation, formless concentration arises. Arising from the power of action refers to those who previously, relying on a human basis, attained formless absorption and then declined, that same one, due to the power of becoming an action to be experienced multiple times, even when born in the form realm, attains formless concentration and then is born again in the formless realm, because without being separated from attachment to the lower ground, one will not be born in the higher realm. Just as formless beings are born in the form realm, formless beings being born in the formless realm also arises from the two powers of cause and action. Among these, arising from the power of cause refers to practicing the approximation of the upper realm. Arising from the power of action refers to the formless realm attained by birth. In the form realm, the meditations arise from those powers of cause and action, and also from the power of nature. Among these, arising from nature refers to when the world is destroyed, beings of the lower meditation mostly enter into virtuous dharmas, therefore they will practice meditation.

Just as my mother's mind arises naturally, without relying on the teachings that explain meditation, but arises due to the habitual imprints of previous meditation practice, this is called arising by nature. The Vaibhashikas do not accept the establishment of habitual imprints, so they believe that it arises from the equal share cause of previous meditation practice. In the desire realm, gods have these three causes, and humans, in addition to these, also have seven types of attention and nine methods of abiding in the mind, etc., which also arise from the power of teachings. If this is carefully analyzed, if it is considered that the arising from the power of karma is the result of the ripening of karma, then in the desire realm, the formless meditation, and in the form realm, the formless mind, will not arise from the power of karma, because they are only the ripened results of the form and formless realms. However, if it is considered the result of the karma of similar cause, then its cause and arising by nature are also the same, so the three divisions would become unreasonable, but nevertheless, this classification is made considering the difference between major and minor. When the world is destroyed, the formless samadhi does not arise in the fourth dhyana because of that reason, so it is not said that the formless realm arises by the power of nature. And the arising of samadhi in one's own realm is not nature, so when the world is destroyed, the arising of the samadhi of the higher realm on the basis of the lower realm without teachings is what is called nature here. Karma and nature also have causes, but since they are the main ones, it is said that way. Next, explaining the qualities that depend on it.
