Collected Works of Jetsun Chokyi Drakpa JCP3: A Clear Exposition of the Lineage of Lamas A Clear Exposition of the Lineage of Lamas A Clear Exposition of the Lineage of Lamas (of the Three Cycles of Mind Interpretation) Svasti! A Clear Exposition of the Lineage of Lamas, which is the preliminary to the Three Cycles of Unexcelled Explanations Composed by the Lord of the Ten Bhumis. Homage to Glorious Vajrasattva! Glorious Heruka, delighting in bliss with a dance of bliss, and causing great passion to be attached to it. Vajra Goddess, with forms of various emanations, various colors of light, radiating subtle rays. The great mandala of the Vajradhatu, the assembly of gods and goddesses with forms in the three realms, abiding in the three realms. May beings attain it through the manner of possessing two purities, may they always bow to it with reverence. The means for realizing that very thing. Having paid homage to the glorious Lama, who clarifies the pure paths. I will write the preliminary to explanation and listening. The teachings spoken by our teacher, the perfectly complete Buddha, can be summarized into two types: the Vehicle of Characteristics and the Vehicle of Mantras. The Vehicle of Characteristics The first: The Wheel of Dharma was turned in three successive stages: first, the Wheel of Dharma of the Four Noble Truths; second, the Wheel of Dharma of No Characteristics; and third, the Wheel of Dharma of the Definitive Meaning of Reality. The first of these includes the collections of the Vinaya, beginning with the four divisions of the Vinaya Pitaka, as well as the Noble Sutra on the Four Establishments of Mindfulness. From within the Ratnakuta Sutra, the Joyful Abiding in the Womb and Entering the Womb, and the Brahma Net Sutra and the Great Illusory Net Sutra, and so forth, are the teachings that expound the Lesser Vehicle. The second includes the One Hundred Thousand Verses on the Mother of the Buddhas, the Twenty-five Thousand Verses, the Eighteen Thousand Verses, the Ten Thousand Verses on Wisdom, the Five Hundred Verses on Wisdom, and the Sutra on the Power of Miraculous Manifestation, and so forth, which are known as the various Prajnaparamita Sutras. From within the Noble Ratnakuta Sutra, the Joyful Abiding in the Womb and the Joyful Entering the Womb, and the forty-six categories of Dharma, excluding the Goddess Sri Mala Lion's Roar Sutra, and so forth. The third includes the Great Nirvana Sutra, the Tathagatagarbha Sutra, and the Samadhiraja Sutra. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

《吉祥天女经》(Lha mo dpal phreng gis zhus pa'i mdo),《能饶益指鬘经》(Sor mo'i phreng ba la phan pa'i mdo),《大鼓经》(Rnga bo che chen po'i mdo),《大云经》(Sprin chen po'i mdo),《解深密经》(Dgongs pa nges 'grel),《如来功德及不可思议智慧境界入经》(De bzhin gshegs pa'i yon tan dang ye shes bsam gyis mi khyab pa'i yul la 'jug pa bstan pa),《华严经》(Sangs rgyas phal po che)和《楞伽经》(Lang kar gshegs pa)等等。 在《解深密经》(Dgongs pa nges par 'grel pa'i mdo)中,菩萨(byang chub sems dpa')真实义成就(don dam yang dag 'phags)向薄伽梵(bcom ldan 'das)提问:‘世尊(bcom ldan 'das),您最初在瓦拉纳西(yul wA rA Na sI)的鹿野苑(ri dwags kyi nags),为进入声闻乘(nyan thos kyi theg pa)的人们,详细阐述了四圣谛(‘phags pa’i bden pa bzhi),转了不可思议的法轮(chos kyi ‘khor lo)。

The Sutra of the Goddess Shri (Lha mo dpal phreng gis zhus pa'i mdo), the Sutra Beneficial to Angulimala (Sor mo'i phreng ba la phan pa'i mdo), the Great Drum Sutra (Rnga bo che chen po'i mdo), the Great Cloud Sutra (Sprin chen po'i mdo), the Samdhinirmocana Sutra (Dgongs pa nges 'grel), the Teaching on Entering the Realm of the Inconceivable Qualities and Wisdom of the Tathagata (De bzhin gshegs pa'i yon tan dang ye shes bsam gyis mi khyab pa'i yul la 'jug pa bstan pa), the Avatamsaka Sutra (Sangs rgyas phal po che), and the Lankavatara Sutra (Lang kar gshegs pa), etc. How do these texts show the meaning of what is to be expressed? Those who are intelligent, if they are not defiled by the habits of bad philosophies, and observe with an impartial mind, will understand. But those who cannot read these texts, if they read the general commentary on the teachings composed by the Dharma King (chos kyi rje), will also understand roughly. Regarding the Three Turnings of the Wheel of Dharma (‘khor lo gsum), what is provisional meaning (drang don)? What is definitive meaning (nges don)? And the differences of whether they clearly distinguish and explain these differences, etc. In the Samdhinirmocana Sutra (Dgongs pa nges par 'grel pa'i mdo), the Bodhisattva (byang chub sems dpa') Meaningful Truthful Accomplishment (don dam yang dag 'phags) asked the Bhagavan (bcom ldan 'das): 'Bhagavan (bcom ldan 'das), you first, in Varanasi (yul wA rA Na sI), in the Deer Park (ri dwags kyi nags), for those who have entered the Hearer Vehicle (nyan thos kyi theg pa), explained in detail the Four Noble Truths (‘phags pa’i bden pa bzhi), and turned a wonderfully amazing Wheel of Dharma (chos kyi ‘khor lo). Although past gods or humans have spoken words in accordance with the Dharma, no one has turned the Wheel of Dharma like you. The turning of the Wheel of Dharma by the Bhagavan is supreme, timely, provisional, and a source of debate. The Bhagavan, starting from the non-self-nature (ngo bo nyid ma mchis pa nyid) of all dharmas (chos rnams), from non-arising (skye ba ma mchis pa) and non-cessation (‘gag pa ma mchis pa), primordial peace (gzod ma nas zhi ba nyid), and self-nature nirvana (rang bzhin gyis yongs su mya ngan las ‘das pa nyid), for those who have entered the Mahayana (theg pa chen po), in the manner of emptiness (stong pa nyid), turned the second wonderfully amazing Wheel of Dharma. The turning of the Wheel of Dharma by the Bhagavan is supreme, timely, provisional, and a source of debate. The Bhagavan, starting from the non-self-nature of all dharmas, from non-arising and non-cessation, primordial peace, and self-nature nirvana, for those who have entered all vehicles (theg pa thams cad), turned a Wheel of Dharma that has skillful distinctions, is extremely wonderful, and most wonderfully amazing.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
