Being controlled by it, all these are only mind, truly appearing in the form of illusion. From this arise virtuous and non-virtuous actions, and from this, rebirth in happy and unhappy realms. Thus, it is said that although actions and afflictions are empty in nature, due to the power of ignorance that grasps at self in what is without self, the two actions of black and white are accumulated on the mind like illusions. Due to the power of that action, one also revolves in the cycle of happy and unhappy realms like an illusion. The Protector also said in the "Precious Garland": As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there will be clinging to self. If there is clinging to self, there will also be action, and from that, there will be birth. Thus, it is taught that actions are accumulated by the power of self-grasping ignorance, and due to the power of that, birth occurs in cyclic existence. Also, in the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness," the Protector said: Whatever is the thought that truly arises from causes and conditions, the Teacher said that is ignorance, and from that, the twelve branches arise. Thus, it is said that the twelve branches of dependent origination arise from ignorance, which grasps at things as true. Arya Deva also said: Thus, sentient beings, separated from virtuous friends, not fully knowing their own minds as they are, clinging to self, clinging to mine, relying on nourishment and accumulation, contemplating virtue and non-virtue, and so forth, experience suffering in cyclic existence from beginningless time. Thus it is said. Glorious Chandrakirti also said: All the faults of afflictions arise from the view of the aggregates. Thus it is said. Je Rinpoche himself also said: Whatever miseries there are in the world, their root is ignorance. Thus, it is said that ignorance is the root of cyclic existence. Thus, although afflictions are the root of cyclic existence, the main thing is that one revolves in cyclic existence due to the power of virtuous and non-virtuous actions accumulated by them. That is, all the container world of cyclic existence is the result of the common ownership of actions related to the mind. The birth of sentient beings and the cessation of the five aggregates are the results of the individual ripening of the uncommon actions of each sentient being. As it says in the Treasury of Knowledge: The manifold world arises from action; action is thought and what is done by it. Thus it is said. Glorious Chandrakirti said: Sentient beings and the container world are extremely diverse phenomena brought about by the mind itself.

D. It is said that all beings are born from karma. Furthermore, in the commentary on this, "Illuminating the Essence of Thought," it is said: The world of sentient beings is the self-entity acquired by the karma and afflictions accumulated by their own minds. The extremely diverse world of containers is established, that is, produced, by the common karma accumulated by the minds of those sentient beings alone, from the circle of wind to the ultimate container of Akanishta. Among them, the various colors on peacocks and so on are produced by the non-common karma of those sentient beings alone. The petals and various colors of lotuses and so on are produced by the common karma of sentient beings. Likewise, one should understand others as well. Therefore, the second part is divided into two: explaining the manner of cyclic existence and explaining the stages of death, etc. The first is: How do sentient beings in cyclic existence wander in cyclic existence? As it says in the Precious Garland: The three paths have no beginning, end, or middle; the circle of cyclic existence is like a fire wheel. And as it says in the Entering the Middle Way: First, there is attachment to the self, thinking "I"; then, attachment to objects arises, thinking "This is mine"; like a water bucket, one is without freedom. As it is said, this is the reason for cyclic existence. There is also a way to combine examples and Dharma in harmony. Just as the turning of a water bucket is combined in six ways that are in harmony with the Dharma, it is the reason for cyclic existence. Just as the turning of a water bucket has six distinctive qualities, such as being bound by a rope, similarly, the wanderer is bound by the rope of karma and afflictions, and wanders due to the arising of consciousness, wanders from the peak of existence to the Avici hell, it is easy to accumulate the causes of bad migrations, it is difficult to accumulate the causes of good migrations, one wanders without interruption between before and after, and wanders in a way that is tormented by the three sufferings. Thus, it changes here: What wanders? Only the "I" that is imputed in dependence on the aggregates wanders. By what is it made to wander? By one's own untamed mind. Where does it wander? Between the peak of existence and the Avici hell. In what manner does it wander? In a manner where birth and death pass from one to the next, without any time of not wandering. By what causes does it wander? By karma and afflictions.
