In short, one day and night is the measure of twenty-one thousand six hundred breaths. Its essence is from dawn to dawn. The waxing and waning of the moon, fifteen white parts and fifteen black parts alternately, each part is fifty-nine hours, three chusangs, five breaths, and sixteen rikhari parts, which is one tithi day. The sun traverses the twelve constellations of the globe in a counterclockwise direction, each constellation being a constellation month. Dividing it into thirty parts, each part is sixty hours, two chusangs, four breaths, one hundred and eight rikhari parts, and fifty arrow parts, the total duration is one constellation day. Thirty constellation days is one constellation month. Six constellation months is one movement. Two movements are twelve months, totaling one constellation year. That constellation year has three hundred and five days and nights, sixteen hours, fourteen chusangs, one breath, twelve desire parts, one hundred and twenty-one rikhari parts, and three hundred and seventy-one tithi days, four hours, thirty-six chusangs, five breaths, and seven desire parts will appear. According to the Abhidharma system, one day has three million two hundred and forty thousand kshanas. Dividing that by twenty-one thousand six hundred breaths, we get one hundred and fifty, but it is very difficult for the duration of one breath to complete one hundred and fifty kshanas. Therefore, the Abhidharma system is clearly a rough calculation, and in reality, it refers to one constellation day. It should be known that this method is not suitable for days and nights. The stars of the twelve constellations rotate clockwise with the wind, but their own rotation is set by the sun enjoying the stars in a counterclockwise direction. I have already roughly explained this in a separate document on time, so I won't say much here. If these different systems are contradictory, what should be done? Others have explained these contradictions in various ways, especially Khedrup Je in the "Great Commentary on the Kalachakra," etc. I won't go into detail here. But, for example, there is nothing wrong with explaining it in different ways, because it is due to the difference of those being taught. For those being taught for the sake of the Abhidharma, in their view, the forms of mountains, continents, etc., spoken of in their own texts, will appear. And in the view of those being taught by the Kalachakra

Furthermore, various forms of mountains, continents, and so forth appear in one's own system. For the sake of those to be tamed, who are different, it is similar. For example, when gods, humans, and pretas, who possess karma, look at a vessel filled with moisture, that same moisture appears as amrita to the gods, as water to humans, and as pus and blood to the pretas. Just as these three realities are established. Moreover, due to the common karma of sentient beings, their individual karmas, and the inconceivable miraculous powers, aspirations, and strengths of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, one should accept in accordance with whichever system one primarily emphasizes, without considering it contradictory. As it is said: "Within the space of a hair's breadth, there are measures of three times, Buddhas like the ocean, realms like the ocean, engaging and entering into kalpas like the ocean." And, "Upon a single atom, there are realms as numerous as atoms." and so forth. I said: Just as the realm of space itself, is without beginning or end, similarly, the number of sentient beings and Buddhas, is without limit. Through the karma of sentient beings, or the blessings of the aspirations of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the arrangement of the container and its contents is diverse, appearing like illusions and magic tricks. The classification of these, is extensively explained in the sutras and treatises, but here, only the essence is extracted from them, and spoken according to the intention of the wise. This is mainly for the sake of those intelligent ones who seek the true meaning of good speech. May all virtues be dedicated for the benefit of others, and may they become the cause for attaining Buddhahood. Thus, this brief explanation of the classification of the container and its contents, was extracted by the Shakya monk named Shedrup from his own previously written commentary on the Treasury of Knowledge, and completed at Chone Monastery with a slight addition at the end. May there be auspiciousness! Good! The Lamp Illuminating the Classification of the Container and its Contents.
