《The Eye of the Doctrine》 was translated from Sanskrit into Tibetan by the monk Geshe Gewai Lodrö, who also proofread the words and meanings and engaged in teaching and listening. This "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment" is like the root of all the Kadampa texts in Tibet. The first to spread its activities was Drom Rinpoche, then Putowa and Sharawa, and other old Kadampa masters. Later, Je Rinpoche also composed the "Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment" based on this, and opened the tradition of the new Kadampa teachings. As it is said: From the two great chariots, the well-transmitted, The profound view and the vast practice path, The essence of the complete and unerring, I bow to Dipamkara, the holder of the treasury of instructions. This statement mainly refers to this text. It is said: Although many pandits and siddhas have appeared in snowy Tibet, The supreme founder of the Kadampa teachings, From Atisha and his disciple Dromton, Whose unparalleled deeds surpass all others. Among the many sutra and tantra texts composed by Jowo, The essence of the stages of the path to be expressed is complete, The most excellent of all is the "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment," The second sun that illuminates the Buddha's teachings. In order to explain the meaning of this supreme text, With the pure virtue obtained by the diligence of the three doors, May I meet Jowo Chenpo as a virtuous friend in all lives, And quickly attain enlightenment. This concise commentary on the "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment" was written by the Shakya monk Drakpa Shedrup at Choni Monastery, solely out of faith, to make offerings to Jowo and his disciples. The scribe of the printing was Kachu Lobsang Wangchuk, who was proficient in grammar, astrology, poetry, and so on. A concise commentary on the "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment," a cloud of offerings that pleases the great Jowo.
