Homage to Mañjughoṣa. I prostrate to the root guru, the possessor of the four kāyas, and to the powerful one, the Buddha, who has the four fearlessnesses. I write this Ritual of the Four Hundred, easy to understand and beneficial to all, in order to be completely victorious in the battle against the four māras. This has three parts: the preliminaries, the main part, and the concluding sequence. First, regarding the preparations, etc.: On a clean base, such as a platform or cloth, draw with colored powders or other paints an eight-petaled lotus with a center. The petals in the four directions are red, the two of fire and wind are yellow, the emptiness of reality is green, and the powerful one is black. The center is green, and the filaments are yellow. It is also permissible to make this according to the general pattern, with white in the east, etc. In the center, place a golden or medicinal statue of the Sugata with the Buddha's right hand in the gesture of supreme generosity, the inside of the palm and fingers red, and a yellow circle around it. On top of this, place a large maṇḍala, or if that is not available, place a golden or medicinal statue of the Tathāgata on top of three wooden legs erected in the center. On top of the head, erect an umbrella or victory banner made of silk or cloth. On the small finger of the hand, place a white deva-māra; on the ring finger, a red kleśa-māra; on the middle finger, a black mṛtyu-māra; and on the index finger, an image of the yellow skandha-māra, made of dough or clay, or painted, facing the palm of the hand. In the palm of the hand, make a likeness of the donor or patient's eyes, etc., from roasted barley flour: hair from wool, eyes from turquoise, brain from pearls, tongue from red silk, teeth from conch shells, the right hand made of gold and the left of silver, the right foot made of copper and the left of iron. If these cannot be obtained, make whatever symbols are available and place them with ornaments and clothing. On the edge of the lotus petals, place twenty-five clay tsha-tshas on each of the four square sections. Similarly, on the outer layer, place a hundred butter lamps. On the outer layer, place a hundred dough figures. On the outer layer, place a hundred divine offerings. Outside of that, in the four directions, prepare a set of offerings with two waters and all the five desirable sense objects. In front, offer a triangular torma to the four māras, decorated with flesh and blood, surrounded by one hundred and one hooks. The ransom for the substitute is jewels, silk cloths, and various fabrics." } ] ============================================================

Medicines, foods, grains, fruits, the essence of alcohol, golden drinks, etc., and also the tormas of the gurus, the Three Jewels, the yidams, the protectors of the Dharma, and the local deities, as well as water, incense, and other offerings, as much as possible, once or twice. If the tsatsa has already been consecrated, then there is no need to consecrate it again. If it is written in the ritual text, it is not convenient to insert it, so it will be explained at the end. Secondly, there are two ways to enter the four actual rituals: how to perform self-generation and other-generation. First, one should fully practice the self-generation of any yidam, such as Hevajra, Vajrabhairava, Hayagriva, etc. If simplified, it can also be generated instantaneously, because some of the hundred and four rituals only mention "visualizing oneself as the yidam," and there is nothing else. Moreover, other methods can also achieve it. Second, there are two types of other-generation: how to generate the guests of the world-transcending and the worldly. First, in the ritual of Panchen, light rays emanate from the seed syllable in the heart of oneself visualized as the deity, inviting the deceased guests, and offering the seven-branch offering and various offerings. There is no other explanation besides this, so it is known that it is okay to do it in that way. However, some authors of this ritual seem to generate the deceased guests in the center of the drawn mandala, so it should be explained in that way. There are two aspects to this: blessing the place and the offerings, and the actual generation method. First, it is better to do it this way: Gurus, Three Jewels, yidam deities, hosts of heroes and dakinis, Dharma protectors and guardians, the unfailing truth of dependent origination and the power of the Dharmadhatu, the power of secret mantras, lineage mantras, and pure intention, may this place be transformed into a supreme pure land, transformed into a cloud of offerings, an uninterrupted ocean, inconceivable realms of earth and space, may it arise and increase, filling everything without remainder. (Tibetan: ༀ་སརྦ་བིད་པཱུ་ར་པཱུ་ར་སུ་ར་སུ་ར་ཨཱ་ཝརྟ་ཡ་ཨཱ་ཝརྟ་ཡ་ཧོཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ सर्व विद पूरा पूरा सुर सुर आवर्तय आवर्तय होः, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ sarva vid pūra pūra sura sura āvartaya āvartaya hoḥ, literal Chinese meaning: Om, all, know, fill, fill, good, good, transform, transform, Hum.) (Tibetan: བཛྲ་སྥ་ར་ཎ་ཁཾ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्र स्फरन खं, Sanskrit Romanization: vajra spharaṇa khaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Vajra, spread, space.) Recite three times to bless the place. Second, purify the mandala with amrita water, and purify with emptiness of self-nature. From emptiness, instantaneously generate a vajra ground, as well as walls, tents, curtains, a mountain of fire, etc. In the center, on a vast and wide precious throne supported by eight great lions,
