This should be understood as such. Knowing poetry is necessary for writing letters, but that is only a secondary purpose. Said: Even if there are many scholars who are proficient in words, culture, and learning, If they can truly understand the meaning of the Mirror of Poetry, And strive to explain it skillfully to others, This is a precious and meaningful Paṇḍita. Whoever tastes the essence of this nectar-like excellent explanation, Is like a bee whose wisdom and strength increase. Together with beautiful verses and melodious sounds, They dance a wonderful and joyful dance in the sky. In that ocean of poetry, where waves surge and undulate, Even those with low intelligence find it difficult to cross with the mark of the moon. However, relying on the guidance of Saraswati, I think I have reached the center of the ocean of poetry. Here, born from the ocean of effort, The white light, like the color of jasmine, May it dispel the darkness of ignorance from the assembly of the wise, And lead them into the realm of the omniscient deities. This work, called "Examples of the Separate Distinctions of the Two Ornaments of Poetry, Delighting the Wise," Was written at Choné Monastery by the master of the doctrine of Sutra and Tantra, the great scholar Khen Rinpoche Lobsang Tänpä Gyaltsän, who is proficient in all branches of Sutra and Tantra, When he went to reside in the Great Palace of China, and upon receiving written teachings and donations, Unable to refuse the request that "You should teach poetry to the abbots and others of the monastery," When teaching according to what he knew, they requested that it would be good to have detailed examples of each poetry. Therefore, the Shakya monk Drakpa Shedrup, with the intention that it might benefit some seekers, composed this book at Choné Monastery itself. After that, Sangye Palzang, the abbot of Choné Monastery, who is well-versed in the meaning of poetry and Sutra and Tantra, and who combines faith and wisdom, In order to fulfill the wishes of the master of the doctrine, Khen Rinpoche, and with the desire to benefit others, decided to have it printed. The scribe in charge of the printing was Kachu Lobsang Wangchuk, who is very diligent in the cultural knowledge of poetry, spelling, and so on. May there be auspiciousness!
