Branch of the Basis Wisdom. Branch of the Basis Wisdom. Branch of the Basis Wisdom. Third, to explain in detail the branches of the Basis Wisdom, there are two parts: a general presentation and an explanation of the meaning of the text. First, there are two parts: the reason for explaining the Basis Wisdom here, and the identification of the main part of the Basis Wisdom to be taught. First, the reason for explaining the Basis Wisdom here after the Path Wisdom has been explained in the second chapter is that in order for the Path Wisdom to arise in one's own mind-stream, it is necessary to first meditate on the aspect of the Basis Wisdom that realizes the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc. If it is not present, it will not arise, because of this reason. As it is said in the commentary: "Without fully knowing all the bases, there is no perfect knowledge of the path, all is knowledge itself." Second, some say that the Basis Wisdom, which is the main subject of the third chapter, is pervaded by the Basis Wisdom of the opposing side, because the Path Wisdom, which is the main subject of the second chapter, is pervaded by the causal Path Wisdom. That is not reasonable, because that Basis Wisdom is the main Basis Wisdom to be taught in the third chapter. It follows that the Path Wisdom is the main Path Wisdom to be taught in the second chapter. Furthermore, it is not reasonable, because the Basis Wisdom that directly realizes the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc., is the main Basis Wisdom to be taught in the third chapter. It follows that in the second chapter, in the nature of the Path Wisdom itself, "Of the four noble truths," in the root sutra to be explained, "Form is impermanent, one should pay attention," etc., the Basis Wisdom that directly realizes the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc., which is implied by the text that shows the aspects of the four truths, is the main Basis Wisdom to be taught in the third chapter. It follows that in the Great Commentary it is said: "Therefore, those implied by the aspects of impermanence, etc., are explained separately as all knowledge in order to fully know the meaning of the basis without exception." Because it is said so. Furthermore, it is reasonable that it is so, because such a Basis Wisdom is the main Basis Wisdom to be taught in the first verse of the praise. Therefore, it is appropriate to mainly show it here as well. It follows that it is a Bodhisattva who takes care of the Hearer and Solitary Realizer lineages.

Because it is the main part of the basic consciousness that must be meditated on in order to abandon the afflictions of one's own continuum. Secondly, explaining the meaning of the text, in the phrases such as "this shore, the other shore is not a boundary," here, the prajna-paramita of the basic consciousness that is taught, and identifying the extremes of samsara and nirvana to which it does not adhere, the way in which it does not adhere to them, and based on these, explaining the difference between the two knowledges of the path, there are four points. Firstly, some people think that the prajna-paramita of the basic consciousness that is directly shown here is the prajna-paramita that directly realizes the emptiness of the three times, but this view is not reasonable. Because the prajna-paramita of the basic consciousness that is directly shown here is the path knowledge of the shravaka's path knowledge that was previously explained, it does not adhere to the two extremes of samsara and nirvana, and it is established as the prajna-paramita of the basic consciousness through being grasped by the wisdom that directly realizes the emptiness of the three times. Because there is no contradiction in saying "in order to know the equality of the three times," because that is in terms of the grasper. The reason is that those texts show that a path knowledge that is grasped by the three wisdoms that do not adhere to the two extremes and the middle will become the prajna-paramita of the basic consciousness. Secondly, the extreme of existence, the extreme of permanence, and the extreme of this shore that are taught here have the same meaning, and there are two types of the extreme of existence, namely: the extreme of existence in relation to the conventional basis, and the extreme of existence in relation to the bodhisattva path. The extreme of existence in relation to the conventional basis is the real extreme of existence, because it has the same meaning as samsara. The difference between the two extremes of existence and peace in relation to the bodhisattva path that is taught here is that the thought of taking birth in samsara as something to be abandoned is the extreme of existence in relation to it; the thought of taking birth in samsara as nirvana that is merely cut off, and striving for it as the main goal, is the extreme of peace in relation to it. That itself is not really abiding in the extremes of existence and peace, because it is neither samsara nor nirvana. Although taking rebirth in samsara due to the power of karma and afflictions is not the real extreme of permanence, there is a reason to call it the extreme of permanence, because if one takes birth in samsara due to the power of karma and afflictions, one must stay there for a long time, so it is difficult to be liberated.
