When the sun of the father sets on the western mountain, And dons the garment of darkness, At that time, you, the moon of speech, Emerge from the peak of the eastern horizon. As an example of your seeing profound meanings, You sought the wisdom of Manjushri. Then, seeing those two as inseparable, We are impoverished in example. To unlock the meaning of the ocean of tantras, The all-pervading great Vajradhara himself, Was unable to differentiate that, So we took a vow of silence. Seeing the ways of beings in degenerate times, Even the Victorious Ones are indifferent, To their own teachings, but at that time, you, the protector, Held the Victorious Ones' teachings completely. Therefore, in seeing all the teachings, Though inseparable from the Victorious Ones themselves, Your compassion makes even the Victorious Ones shy, So I wonder if you are greater than the Victorious Ones themselves. Even if the Powerful Sage were to come in person at this time, If he were not to tame those to be tamed, You would hold all the Powerful One's sacred Dharma, And accomplish the deeds of the Victorious Ones. The Victorious Ones bound the unfailing crown on your head, And empowered you as their own regent. Likewise, Maitreya should also, Bind the crown on you. From your ocean of qualities, I take just a drop of the water of discernment, On the tip of a blade of kusha grass to offer to you, Even the fully omniscient one cannot completely do so. From the ocean of the venerable lama's teachings, The garden of the lotus petals of the well-born biography, Which has become a beautiful ornament clarifying the intention, The rays of the illuminating sun have now risen. By this virtue, may I perfectly see the Victorious Ones' profound intentions, and like the one who sees, may I perfectly show it clearly to other trainees, the second teacher, the Dharma Lord, the venerable lama Tsongkhapa. May I never be separated in all lives, may I be cherished with great love, and may I uphold the sutra and tantra Dharma traditions of that protector in all lands and directions, and quickly attain complete enlightenment, the complete Buddhahood! This was because Sangye Palzang, the former throne holder of Moné, who had studied extensively in sutra and tantra and had gained particular faith in the writings of the Lord through reasoning, and whose knowledge of poetry was extensive, urged me, saying, "This biography appears to be the main one of the Lord's biographies, so please make a commentary on it adorned with poetry, and I will arrange for it to be printed." Therefore, I began the practice.

Although I have not been able to please the Lord (Tsongkhapa) through some means, I presume to have seen several dreams in which the Lord himself, through the power of explaining his intention and praying, held me with a little affection. The Shakya monk Drakpa Shedrup, known as the former abbot of Yosay Monastery, although he had not seen the previous commentary on this treatise, to the best of his own estimation, first made a brief summary of the Lord's biography, and then wrote this commentary on the biography with additions at Chone Monastery. May there be auspiciousness! May there be auspiciousness! A commentary on the biography related to the biography of the Lord Rinpoche, called "The Lamp that Illuminates the Intentions Completely."
