Then names arise. From the category of names, words arise. Words reveal all meanings. This means, what is the reason for adding those suffixes? Thus connecting, to show that the clarity of the meaning of names and words depends on the preceding and following letters. From the category of two or more letters combined, such as 'ka' etc., names like 'pillar', 'vase' etc. arise. From the category of two or more names combined, words like 'sandalwood pillar' and 'golden vase' etc. arise, and words reveal all meanings. For example, on top of a mansion supported by sandalwood pillars, adorned with golden vases, just like that, a coherent flow of language is formed. Here, the great Xia Lu master explains "all meanings" as meaning "completely". The second part has two points: what is the main thing that shows meaning, and showing the opposite of that. The first point is: if there is no feminine letter, then masculine letters cannot be expressed. Even for those masculine letters, without suffixes, names and words cannot be clear. If there are no clear names and words, then all meanings cannot be expressed. This means that the formation of language depends on suffixes, so if there is no feminine letter suffix, just the combination of masculine letters like 'ka' etc., it will not be able to show the meaning expressed, and even for those masculine letters that are the root of the word, without suffixes, each single letter like 'ga' etc., will not be able to clearly express names and words. If names and words are not clearly expressed, then all meanings cannot be expressed either. For words like 'kha' and 'ja nya', although there is no actual suffix, the way to obtain the meaning of the letter 'a' has already been explained. Here, mentioning feminine letters is because it is considered that suffixes are generally within the category of feminine letters. The second point is: if that were the case, in the world, there would be no expression that represents meaning, nor would there be the teachings of the Vedas, and the teachings of Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Buddhas would also disappear. Just like sentient beings in the world, if there were no aggregates, realms, and sources, as well as other schools of thought, they would not be able to understand themselves. Similarly, the usage of letters, although it exists in all expressions, its own state

If one does not know that nature, how can one skillfully apply it to meaning? Thus it is said. As mentioned above, if it becomes like that, in the world, "eat," "go," "sit," and so on, all expressions that convey meaning will cease to exist. The proponents of the four Vedas of the outsiders will also cease to exist. The teachings of the Buddhist Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Buddhas will also cease to exist. For example, in the world, although sentient beings have aggregates, elements, sources, philosophical tenets, and so on, if one does not label "this and this," then from the beginning, one will not know it oneself. Although it appears as "not here" in the root text, it should be said as "although it exists elsewhere." Similarly, the ways of using letters, although they exist in all speech, if one does not label "this and this," then one cannot well understand the differences and their respective states. Therefore, how can one skillfully apply words to express meaning as it is? One cannot know. The four Vedas have been mentioned. Aggregates are the five from form to consciousness. Elements are the six sense bases such as the eye, the six object bases such as form, and the six consciousness bases such as eye consciousness, totaling eighteen elements. Sources are the six from the eye source to the mind source, and the six from the form source to the dharma source, totaling twelve sources. Proponents of philosophical tenets fundamentally have four: Vaibhashika, Sautrantika, Chittamatra, and Madhyamaka. These are also in terms of inner Buddhism, and there are many distinctions between inner and outer. Third, the meaning of application is: Therefore, after the Lord of Speech, may all this that is said be realized. Thus it is said. Because of the reasons mentioned before, I, Thumi, here, following the Lord of Speech, Manjushri, may all the meanings of what is said be realized by the people of Tibet. Writing "Lord" with a final 'sa' seems to be a writing error. Regarding the meaning of "all this," other commentaries connect it as "all the people of Tibet," but my thought is still as before, it needs to be examined. Grammar and so on are easy.

In short, the basis of everything is letters, and the root is divided into two types: vowels and consonants. In the snowy land of Tibet, who else but Thumi initially established the Tibetan script? Here, in the lotus mouth opened by the light of good explanations of his views on the Thirty Verses and the Entrance to Grammar, the six-legged insects seeking meaning and holding honey should enter while joyfully buzzing. Whatever merit is born from the effort in this way, may all beings, without any obstacles to what is to be taught and what can be taught, achieve the four correct wisdoms individually. Thus, this work called "The Light Illuminating the Meaning of the Thirty Verses and the Entrance to Grammar" was written by the Shakya Bhikshu Drakpa Shedrup at the urging of Gyathang Kachu Jamyang Jinpa and Abbot Paljor Gyatso. The Light Illuminating the Meaning of the Words of the Thirty Verses and the Entrance to Grammar.
