It is in the order in which the physical faculties are mostly subordinate. Secondly, there is a special need to explain and understand the five aggregates, because the basis for the illusion of self in one's own continuum is definitely the five aggregates. If one understands the divisions of the five aggregates well, one can reverse the ignorance of mistaking the aggregates for the self of a person. Each of the five aggregates is also the basis for the illusion of the self of a person, i.e., when the eye sees, one mistakes that there is a seer self; when the ear hears, one mistakes that there is a hearer self; when the nose smells, one mistakes that there is a smeller self; when the tongue tastes, one mistakes that there is a taster self; when the body touches, one mistakes that there is a toucher person's self. When experiencing pleasant and unpleasant feelings, one mistakes that there is a self that experiences the ripening when enjoying with the three cravings. When consciousness establishes terms by distinguishing "seeing, hearing, and knowing," one mistakes that there is an independent self of the term maker. When actions accumulate black and white karma, and when there is birth, old age, sickness, death, and going and staying, one mistakes that there is an independent self of such an actor. When mind and mental factors arise, because the basis of that arising, the alaya consciousness, gives rise to the thought of mistaking it for a permanent self, one will be born in samsara by its power. There is a way to reverse those thoughts, if one knows that the aggregates are established in dependence on each other and are merely imputed phenomena that arise in dependence, then it will be reversed. Furthermore, it is necessary to explain and understand the characteristics of the aggregates, elements, and sources, in order to dispel the ignorance of grasping the two, form and mind, and the mind and mental factors as one entity, the five aggregates are explained. In order to dispel the ignorance of grasping form as one entity, the twelve sources are explained. In order to dispel the ignorance of grasping both form and mind as one entity, the eighteen elements are explained. Furthermore, for the sake of the meaning that can be understood by the sharp faculties by mentioning the beginning, the five aggregates are explained; for the sake of the meaning that the medium faculties need to be distinguished slightly, the twelve sources are explained; for the sake of the meaning that the dull faculties need to be clearly distinguished, the eighteen elements are explained. In order to dispel those ignorances. Those ignorances must be definitely dispelled, if they are not reversed, they will be bound by it and wander in samsara.

It is for the sake of taking rebirth in the future. In general, one must clearly understand the difference between existence and non-existence. If one understands in this way, ignorance will be averted, and one will be liberated from samsara. In particular, if one clearly understands the terms and ultimate reality of the aggregates, elements, and sense-bases, then the misconceptions and wrong views that are confused about them will be averted. The reason for doing so is that it is necessary to clearly understand the aggregates, elements, etc. As the Protector Nagarjuna said: If one fully knows existence and non-existence, the great self will be completely liberated. Glorious Chandrakirti also said: Whatever is a distorted thought, the wise say is the fruit of discernment. Therefore, I say: If the stain of the eye of wisdom is not washed away by a drop of the ocean of Dharma, then wanting to see the profound meaning of the scriptures is like a blind person wanting to see forms on cloth. Therefore, if you want to understand the profound meaning of the Buddha's teachings and the good sayings of many wise people, you should enter into such treatises that clearly explain the aggregates, elements, and sense-bases. This was composed by the Shakya monk named Shedrup (Explanation and Practice) at Jone Monastery for the benefit of some aspirants. The printer is Kachu Jamyang Donyo. Mangalam!
