The first of the two is: the clear intellect that thoroughly distinguishes by focusing on the nature of its own object, is the definition of consciousness. There are six types: eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, and mental consciousness. Although there is order, etc., in the third, here only the necessary points are explained. There is a need to explain the five aggregates, because the five aggregates are the basis for the arising of the delusion of clinging to a self of a person. If the classification of the five aggregates is well understood, it will transform the mind that mistakenly clings to the aggregates as the self of a person. Moreover, each of the five aggregates is also the basis for the arising of clinging to a self, that is, when the five faculties such as the eye enjoy objects, one mistakenly thinks that there is a person-self who sees forms. When the three feelings are enjoyed by the three attachments, one mistakenly thinks that there is a person-self who experiences the ripening. When consciousness applies terms by distinguishing what is seen and heard, one mistakenly thinks that there is an independent self who applies terms. When action accumulates black and white karma and performs birth, aging, sickness, death, walking, etc., one mistakenly thinks that there is a person-self who accumulates, is born, etc., and who walks, etc. When mind and mental factors arise, one mistakenly thinks that their place is the permanent self of the clear intellect. These minds have a way of transforming, that is, if one knows that the aggregates are merely phenomena established in dependence on each other, then they will be transformed. Furthermore, there is also a need to explain the five aggregates, because it is to dispel the ignorance of holding form and mind and mental factors as one entity. Similarly, for the other phenomena that will be explained, it should be known that each has its own necessity. Second, explaining the faculties, there are two: the basis of classification and the classification. The first is: a composite that has the power to generate its own result, consciousness, is the meaning of faculty in this context. There are six types: eye faculty, ear faculty, nose faculty, tongue faculty, body faculty, and mental faculty. First, for the eye faculty, a colored, clear substance that has the power to be the uncommon dominant condition for generating its own result, eye consciousness, is the definition or nature of the eye faculty, and the structure of the eye, etc., can also represent it. Just as images appear in a mirror and a clear substance, the eye faculty is like colors, etc.

It is a clear material object capable of reflecting images. Regarding the definitions of the ear sense faculty, etc., such as "the self-result is the ear consciousness," and "the self-result is the nose," etc. Similarly, it should be applied to the tongue and body as well. The definition of the mind sense faculty is: a conditioned phenomenon that has the power to act as the uncommon dominant condition for the self-result, the mind consciousness. The Vaibhashikas believe that the eye sense faculty is like a cotton flower in the eyeball, about the size of a grape, and is very clear; the ear sense faculty has the shape of a rolled-up leaf; the nose sense faculty is like needles placed side by side; the tongue sense faculty is like a half-moon on the tongue; and the body sense faculty is believed to be present like atoms in all parts of the body. Some Cittamatrins say that the eye sense faculty is a power that has the ability to generate eye consciousness. However, according to our own system, as mentioned above, except for the mind sense faculty, the others are very clear forms derived from the four great elements. This is the view of Gyaltsab Je and the Compendium of Abhidharma. So, are the eye, eye sense faculty, eye element, and eye sense base contradictory? According to the Compendium and its commentary, they are not contradictory. For example, the eye is established as the sense faculty, element, and sense base respectively, through the means of dominating, apprehending, and producing consciousness. The other five should be understood similarly. The Vaibhashikas believe that the eye sense faculty sees forms, but the eye consciousness alone does not see them. But here, both see forms. The eye sense faculty is considered to see only in terms of appearance, while the eye consciousness manifests the image of the form and cognizes it through apprehension. These six and the six objects, such as forms, are also called the twelve sense bases. Third, regarding the objects, such as forms, there are two parts: the basis of division and the division. The first part is: that which is cognized by consciousness based on the sense faculties, which here refers to the meaning of object. There are six types: form, sound, smell, taste, tactile object, and phenomena. The first, the form in this context refers to the form sense base, so its definition is: the external sense base that is the main object of the self-grasping eye consciousness. It is divided into color and shape. The definition of sound is: that which is heard and understood by the self-grasping ear consciousness.
