The Mirror Clarifying Karma. The Mirror Clarifying Karma. The Mirror Clarifying Karma is present. Namo Manjushriye (藏文:ན་མོ་མཉྫུ་གྷཱོ་ཥཱ་ཡ།). By the power of knowing what is and is not the place, Clearly seeing the state of karma and its results, With love, revealing it as it is to beings, I bow to the unparalleled teacher, the King of the Shakyas. The excellent regent Mipham Chöje and, The sons of the Victorious Ones, Nagarjuna and Asanga, the brothers' feet, To the Second Victorious One and all the lineage holders, Having paid homage, I will explain the Mirror of Karma. This has nine parts: The nature of karma, Differentiation in terms of essence, How to accumulate karma, Other categories of differentiation, The Mirror of the Ten Paths of Karma, The difference between heavy and light karma, The Mirror of the results of karma, The difference between projecting and completing karma, And the remainder of these. First, although the Sautrantikas and Vaibhashikas consider the karma of body and speech to be corporeal, here, according to the views of Asanga and his brother, etc., it is explained that any mental factor, other than affliction, that is instigated by affliction and its imprints, is the nature of karma. Second, differentiating karma in terms of its essence, there are two types: karma of intention and karma of thought. Karma of intention is synonymous with mind, and karma of thought refers to the karma of body and speech. As the Protector Nagarjuna says in the Root Wisdom: "That which is called karma of intention, is considered to be mind. That which is called thought, is considered to be body and speech." Also, Vasubandhu says in the Treasury: "Karma is intention and what is done by it. Intention is the karma of mind, and from it arise the karma of body and speech." Therefore, the meaning of the words is: karma of intention is called karma of mind, because it is sufficient to accomplish it with the mind, without regard to whether it manifests in body or speech. Karma of thought is called karma of body and speech, because it must be motivated by intention from the mind, and then accomplished through either body or speech. Thus, without relying on body or speech, the karma that agitates and motivates the mind and its corresponding mental states, and is thus thoroughly distinguished, is the object of designation for karma of intention, and the cultural karma that must be accomplished through either body or speech is the object of designation for karma of thought.

Okay. Third, the method of accumulating karma is: the basis for accumulating karma is twofold: ordinary beings and noble ones. Noble ones can accumulate virtuous karma with outflows, but they do not newly accumulate karma that leads to samsara. As stated in the commentary on the Dependent Arising Sutra: "Those who see the truth have no attraction." Therefore, as long as the power of the first limb, ignorance, exists, both black and white attracting karma will be accumulated. Moreover, it is accumulated until the noble path is attained, but once it is attained, there is no desire to accumulate it. Furthermore, if one engages in non-virtuous actions such as killing for the sake of this life alone, one accumulates non-meritorious karma. If one engages in giving and keeping precepts in the desire realm for the sake of the next life alone, one accumulates meritorious karma. If one meditates on absorptions included in the higher realms, one will achieve in samsara by accumulating unwavering karma. With this wisdom, if one engages in virtuous actions with the intention of seeking liberation from samsara, one will accumulate karma that becomes the cause of liberation. Fourth, in general, karma can be divided into three types: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. These three types can also be summarized into two types: karma with outflows and karma without outflows. There are many ways to classify them by category, such as the three types of meritorious, non-meritorious, and unwavering karma; the three types of karma that experience pleasure, pain, and equanimity; and the two types of karma that are definite and indefinite in their fruition. Among the karma with definite fruition, there are three types: karma to be experienced in this life, karma to be experienced in the next life, and karma to be experienced multiple times. There are also karma that has been accumulated and not accumulated, karma that has been accumulated but not acted upon, karma that has been acted upon but not accumulated, karma that has been acted upon and accumulated, and karma that has not been acted upon and not accumulated. And the four types of white karma with white results, black karma with black results, mixed black and white karma, and neither black nor white karma. If we explain these differences in order, it is as follows: Karma that experiences happiness as its result is virtuous karma, such as the karma of abandoning killing. Karma that experiences suffering as its result is non-virtuous karma, such as the karma of killing. Karma that does not experience either happiness or suffering as its result is neutral karma, such as the karma created by an intermediate state of mind that is neither virtuous nor non-virtuous. Because virtuous karma and neu-
