The Illumination of the Intent, a Well-Spoken Lamp, Clearly Explaining the Meaning of the Great Treatise on the Stages of Mantra, an Explanation of the Intent of the Four Classes of Tantra. The Illumination of the Intent, a Well-Spoken Lamp, Clearly Explaining the Meaning of the Great Treatise on the Stages of Mantra, an Explanation of the Intent of the Four Classes of Tantra. This is the treatise called The Illumination of the Intent, a Well-Spoken Lamp, Clearly Explaining the Meaning of the Great Treatise on the Stages of Mantra, an Explanation of the Intent of the Four Classes of Tantra. Namo Guru Manjughoshaya. The wisdom, compassion, and activity of all the Buddhas, manifesting in human form as a unified whole, revealing the excellent path that pleases the Sugatas to beings, I respectfully prostrate to the spiritual friends who illuminate it. In order to uphold without omission the entire doctrine of the Sage, both sutra and tantra, through the dance of the saffron robes, he attained the accomplishment of explaining the ocean of scriptures. I bow to the peerless Lama Tsongkhapa. From the vast path of the stainless, radiant gods, comes the well-arisen illusory net of the union of two truths, the basis for the pure movement and stillness, expansion and contraction, may the first protector, the lord of the hundred families, be victorious. Although he is the father of all the infinite Buddhas, he manifests the youthful form, feigning the power of the ten bhumis. Even remembering him bestows the supreme of intelligence. May the treasure of wisdom, the venerable one, bestow auspiciousness. By merely reverently relying on his lotus feet, the armies of evil demons and obstructors are destroyed. Lord Vajradhara, the master of all holders of secret mantras and vidyas, protect me. The secret treasury of all the infinite Buddhas, the venerable Tsongkhapa who reveals it as it is, I shall explain the Illumination of the Intent, a well-spoken lamp, of the ultimate good explanation, the stages of the secret mantra path. Here there are two: showing that the Buddha's doctrine itself is the entrance for those who desire liberation, and showing the different doors for entering it. The first is that merely accomplishing the means of happiness in this life is the custom established by the old people of the world, but those who seek happiness even in future lives do not consider that sufficient, and it is necessary to enter the Buddha's scriptures through hearing and so forth. Before that, it is necessary to enter his doctrine through the door of taking refuge in the Buddha himself and so forth, as it says in the Spelma Praise: "The beginningless and endless samsara, abides within the ocean."

Unpleasant things such as attachment, The body devoured by a rakshasa, To whom shall I turn for refuge today? Who is it that has all faults, Completely and originally never existed, Who is it that has all virtues, Abiding in all forms, If there is something the mind relies on, Then take refuge in and praise that尊, Respect him and abide in his teachings. As it is said. Entering the teachings of the Victorious Ones, there are two teachings: the scriptural teaching and the realized teaching. To uphold them, the scriptural teaching is through hearing and thinking, and the realized teaching is through the door of practice. As the Abhidharmakosha says: "The Teacher's sacred Dharma is of two kinds, Being the nature of scripture and realization. Those who uphold it are those who speak it, And those who practice it alone." As it is said. The scriptural teaching refers to the sutras, tantras, and their commentaries. The realized teaching refers to the actual path of the three trainings and the two stages, along with its retinue. Moreover, taking refuge in the Three Jewels is also the teaching of the Victorious Ones, as it is the door to entering the teachings. Therefore, one must regard pure refuge and the sacred Dharma of scripture and realization, which are encompassed by renunciation, as the teachings. Thus, one must know what the essence of the teachings is. If one does not know this and speaks of the teachings of the Victorious Ones, it is merely empty words. Secondly, there are two divisions: the general division of vehicles and the division of the Great Vehicle. The first has four parts: the door of division, the reason for division, the individual characteristics, and the explanation that all are branches of attaining enlightenment. First, it is divided into three according to the inclinations of those to be trained. That is, if divided according to practice, the practice of detachment is shown to those inclined towards the inferior, the practice of the grounds and perfections is shown to those inclined towards the vast, and the practice of desire is shown to those inclined towards the profound. If summarized, it can also be divided into the two vehicles of superior and inferior. Second, regarding the reason, there is one type of being who, for the sake of their own benefit, seeks the inferior goal of pacifying only the suffering of samsara, and another type of being who, for the sake of all sentient beings, seeks the supreme goal of Buddhahood. These are the two types of beings to be trained.
