With the patience of non-weariness, enduring students' questions, and enduring others' debates while being able to answer, one will be able to guide disciples. It is said that one needs to tolerate the retinue's wrongdoings. If one possesses clairvoyance that certainly benefits others, then one should do so. Otherwise, it contradicts many things, such as not teaching the Dharma to the disrespectful and the five cases such as those with umbrellas, so it is a very hasty statement. What benefit is there to higher realms or definite goodness from teaching and listening with attachment and aversion that establishes falsehoods? If one teaches with these qualities, it will be pleasing and beautiful to the retinue and will become the path. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: 'Thus, one who is virtuous, without weariness, compassionate, renowned, with good conduct, and wise, is a Bodhisattva who speaks well; teaching shines like the sun among beings.'

In short, it is determined by revealing the three ways of expressing what is to be shown, which makes the student excellent in Dharma. The second way is: by identifying the basis of distinction through ordinary conjunctions, and then explaining the special Dharma by way of dispelling doubts, thereby examining how it indicates directly or indirectly. This makes the student proficient in words. The third way is: even if they understand the meaning of the scriptures, they may not be able to refute the arguments of others. Therefore, an argument is presented that does not understand its intention, that is, questioning the explained content as "contradictory, repetitive, irrelevant," and then eliminating this intention by answering, and dispelling doubts that the answers of other scriptures and reasoning have hidden meanings. This enables students to gain certainty in the meaning of the scriptures. In the "Commentary on Reasoning," it says: "Those who speak of the essence of the sutras should explain with the necessary meaning, with the meaning of words, with conjunctions, and with refutations and answers. The two, refutation and answer, are combined into one for the sake of answering the meaning of refutation." Therefore, first hearing the necessity of the sutras, etc., and then striving to hear and grasp, thus explaining the necessity. Since it can be understood from the summarized meaning, the summarized meaning is the body of the sutra or treatise, that is, both sound and meaning, or it is to show the meaning to be expressed in a summarized way. Since it can be understood from the meaning of words, the meaning of words is taken as the basis of explanation, and then, by welcoming doubts about special dharmas, the end of questions and answers is analyzed and explained, or multiple names are used for one meaning, or one name is used for multiple meanings, or a part of the sound is quoted for explanation, or it is explained by changing letters, or the negative sound is extracted from within, and then it is explained by changing words, and so on. Also in the "Commentary on Reasoning," it says: "The meaning of words can be understood through four ways: through synonyms, through definitions, through etymology, and through detailed classification." Among them, synonyms are other names. Definition is the meaning to which that name refers. Etymology is the expression of the reason for the name. And so on. Some people think that etymology is not an explanation of words, which is unreasonable, because in the "Abhidharmakosha," etc., the explanation of words is explained in eight aspects. Conjunction is the connection between the preceding and following meanings, and the connection between the preceding and following order. Through conjunction, it can be understood that the order of word meanings does not contradict each other.
