It is said to be an example of non-existence, and the way of applying the example is different. When it is taken as an example of the conventional, whatever appears, there is no truth in the reality of that thing, like a dream, like an illusion. When it is taken as an example of the ultimate, although various forms of the container and its contents appear to self-aware wisdom, that conventional thing does not exist, like a dream, like an illusion. Thus, the conventional is like consciousness appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like wisdom appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like delusion appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like non-delusion appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like suffering appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like bliss appearing empty like an illusion. And so on, similar to the above. The conventional is like faults appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like qualities appearing empty. The conventional is like misery appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like perfection appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like ignorance appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like knowledge appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like all afflictions appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like complete purification appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like samsara appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like nirvana appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like grasping and being grasped appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like non-dual wisdom appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like imputation and other-power appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like perfect reality appearing empty like an illusion. The conventional is like suffering and origin appearing empty like an illusion. The ultimate is like cessation and path appearing empty like an illusion. Similarly, both truths should also be understood as being like dreams and reflections, and so on. Moreover, when explaining the union of appearance and emptiness in the ultimate sense, in the *Wisdom Vajra Compendium Tantra* it says: "Then, the Tathagatas, realms as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, like illusions, like reflections in water, like cataracts, like mirages, like dreams, like musical instruments, like cities of gandharvas, like magical illusions, like the basis of the senses."

Like rainbows, lightning, bubbles, and reflections in a mirror, the twelve similes of illusion closely symbolize the samadhi of great bliss. The noble Nagarjuna said: Whatever a yogi contemplates, that he should regard as like an illusion. Whoever sees the image in a mirror, dreams, illusions, and bubbles as being like hallucinations, that one is said to be the master. Seeing and touching, beings are just like illusions. All conventional objects without focus are said to be like illusions. Thus, the union of ultimate appearance and conventional empty things is the union of ultimate appearance and emptiness, like dreams, etc. The union of conventional appearance and emptiness with truth is the union of conventional appearance and emptiness, like dreams, etc. From then on, although dreams, etc., are no different from the two truths, conventional objects do not appear as illusory, and conventional minds do not recognize them as illusory. Because they cling to untrue things as true, they are deluded and deceived. When the seed of obscuration, one wind-channel, ceases, the object of ultimate truth appears as illusory, and the mind of ultimate truth also recognizes it as illusory. Therefore, one obtains a samadhi that is not attached to anything, and is filled with joy and happiness, filling the sky. Thus, all the activities and deeds of the Dharmakaya are the manifestations of the Alaya consciousness, the self-appearance of the Great Seal, the self-nature of the Great Vehicle, the experience of the Great Madhyamaka, the manifestation of the Tathagatagarbha, the profound other-emptiness wave, the play of the clear light Dharmakaya, the profound appearance of the Prajnaparamita, which is called samadhi. Therefore, all the great power of activity, the vast space of activity, and the vast pervasiveness of activity must be recognized as the mind of ultimate truth. Separately introduce them one by one.
