The method of finding and relying on a correct Lama. The method of finding and relying on a correct Lama. The term "Complete Buddha" refers to the unbroken connection from the Complete Buddha to the root Lama, without interruption by nominal terms and vows. Praying to such a lineage where the transmission from mind to meaning is unbroken will bring blessings, and is an object of reverence. That Lama, having attained the supreme accomplishment, becomes a spiritual friend who bestows correct qualities upon the minds of beings, as described in the "Fifty Verses on the Guru." To rely on a correct Lama is to rely on them correctly. Having found a correct Lama, if one comes under the influence of a false spiritual friend, it is like garlic and a poisonous tree. What happens when you get close to garlic? If you rely on a false spiritual friend, they will say, "Your Lama did this, has that fault," and they will say this wherever they go. The root of a poisonous tree is poison, the leaves are also poison, and the fruit is also poison. Whoever gets close to it will be destroyed. Therefore, a false spiritual friend is like that. Their characteristics, as stated in the "Fifty Verses on the Guru," are that they speak Dharma from their mouths but engage in non-virtue themselves, and cause others to engage in non-virtue. Secondly, the method of finding and relying on a correct Lama is that the intention of the Lama's body, speech, and mind is Samadhi and wisdom. One should learn to hold the Lama's biography in one's own mind. All attachments to permanence, annihilation, extremes, and limits are mistaken paths. The correct path is the stages of the path and the profound, supreme path of the Lama. However, since there is a possibility of error in the stages of the path, it is very important not to make mistakes. It is not enough to merely induce devotion to the Lama, because some people do not develop devotion and see everything the Lama does as wrong, so one must abandon wrong views. If one perceives the Lama as a Buddha, devotion will arise. Devotion brings the Lama under one's control, as the Precious Guru said. He spoke of the wheel of three essences, which are the perverted essence and the essence of things. Perversion is of three kinds: outer, inner, and secret. The secret is the inner essence, because there are secret words in the dwelling place, so one loses the point and quarrels with the essence. The middle essence is that the qualities and wisdom of all virtuous friends are great, so Dharma seems easy. One thinks, "I am more clever than the Lama, my knowledge is greater, the Lama does not know Dharma," or "I am equal to the Lama, now we need to distinguish who is first and last," and so on. All of this is due to arrogance.

Falling through antagonizing the lama. External falling is because the monks lack devotion and do not see the qualities. They treat the Dharma as inferior and do not pray from the bottom of their hearts, thinking that the lama is responsible for the lack of merit, and thus are driven by the five poisons and three poisons, especially ignorance, considering the lama to have attachment and aversion, saying that the lama does not keep me in mind, thereby accumulating sins and provoking, leading to falling. These three cause the breaking of vows and distance from accomplishments, which is the perverted falling. Real falling is divided into two types: impure falling and pure falling. For those disciples with special devotion, one person's devotion can control the lama. If one is devoted to the lama's actions of the five poisons and three poisons, then the lama is like fire and will be consumed by the flames of affliction. If one is devoted to the lama's state of non-determination and ignorance, then non-determination and ignorance will greatly increase. There are two situations for the lama: can be controlled by devotion and cannot be controlled by devotion. If one is devoted to the lama's lack of meditation and being distracted by worldly affairs, then if the disciple also focuses on meditation, meditation will not arise, but instead will focus on the world. If one is devoted to the ordinary state of the lama's body, speech, and mind, then the lama will not be controlled. The reason for this is, hehehe. The situation where one can be controlled is: if one is devoted to the lama's clarity of awareness through the key points of the secret mantra's channels and energies, then the devotion that the disciple makes will not involve clinging and conceptualization, but will be as clear as the eye seeing an object. If the lama has clairvoyance, then he will see the disciple's devotion. When the lama has compassion and equanimity, the lama will remember that disciple. Now it is also remembered as if offering an object of blessing to the lama. The disciple controlling the lama through pure devotion refers to this situation. The venerable Barompa said: Those who can transfer are not just lamas like me. If one transfers to the lama's actions of the five poisons and three poisons, one will be bound by afflictions and fall into the lower realms. If one transfers to the ordinary state, one will not know at the time of death, the consciousness will not be able to grasp, and the consciousness will not know where it wanders. If one transfers to the lama's stable meditation on the yidam deity.
