Notes on Self-Blessing Notes on Self-Blessing ༈ Notes on Self-Blessing. The essence of the Buddhas of the three times, the source of all happiness, goodness, and qualities, I prostrate to the Kagyu lineage lamas. I shall write based on the holy words. The Venerable Rinpoche said at the time of his passing: If you wish to achieve the result of Buddhahood from the cause of sentient beings, you must practice the precious Dharma. And that depends on a true lama. What is a true lama like? One must have one who possesses four kinds of roots. The lama is the root of the instructions, the instructions are the root of the lineage, the lineage is the root of the blessings, and the blessings are the root of devotion. The lama is the root of the instructions, which means that one needs a lama who is skilled in the capacity of the student and knows various instructions that are in accordance with it. Just knowing is not enough. It is said that the instructions are the root of the lineage, which means that the instructions are not arbitrary, and the lineage is not interrupted. It is not enough for the lineage to be uninterrupted, it must be said that the lineage is the root of blessings, that is, the Kagyu lamas must also have experience and realization and manifest the path of blessings. Blessings also depend on devotion, so it is said that blessings are the root of devotion, that is, having pure devotion to the former lamas and practicing this path to obtain blessings. Thus, one who possesses four kinds of roots can also be called a true lama. It can also be called a true spiritual friend. At the time of meeting such a holy lama, without regard for body and life, if one practices the instructions with pure devotion and without doubt, blessings will manifest, and one will become equal in qualities to the former lamas. Gathering together in a pure realm, experiencing the joy of Dharma, that is certain and without deception. It is also said in the Shri Chakrasamvara Tantra: Having abandoned all offerings, one should begin to offer to the lama. By pleasing him, one obtains the state of omniscience.

You will obtain the supreme result. Moreover, in the Arya Samadhiraja Sutra, it is said: All the Buddha's teachings rely on the spiritual friend. The king who possesses the supreme qualities said this. Moreover, in the Arya Ashtasahasrika Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is said: Son of good family, you should cherish, respect, and honor the spiritual friend. If you are completely taken care of by the spiritual friend, there will be no fear of falling into the lower realms. Thus it is said. We ourselves, in the degenerate age at the end of all kalpas, have been liberated from the eight states of unfreedom, such as the three lower realms, and have obtained a pure human body. We have met a spiritual friend and have become a vessel suitable for practicing profound instructions. Know that this arises from the power and blessing of accumulating merit. At such a time when conditions are complete, it is important to generate faith and devotion and to diligently practice. Thus it is said. Therefore, this instruction was spoken by the great glorious Vajradhara to Vajra Ghantapa. He spoke it to Avadhutipa. He spoke it to Kriya Dharma Vajra. He spoke it to Byangchub Zangpo. He spoke it to Vajrasana. He spoke it to Lama Agomkara. He spoke it to Tsami Lotsawa. He spoke it to Lama Palchenpo. He spoke it to Lama Zhang. He spoke it to Lama Rinpoche. He spoke it to me. To explain this unbroken lineage of blessed instructions, it should be understood through three meanings: the meaning of the beginning, the meaning of the main text, and the meaning of dedicating the root of virtue at the end. First, the meaning of the beginning has three parts: the meaning of the title, the prostration, and the demonstration of the greatness of the instruction. First, the meaning of the title: In Sanskrit: Sva Adhisthana Krama Upadesha Ka. In Tibetan: The Instruction of Self-Blessing. Thus it is said. Among these, Sva Adhisthana means self-blessing. Krama means sequence. Upadesha Ka means instruction. Self-blessing means that it does not depend on inviting wisdom beings, etc., but recognizes that oneself is inherently a deity and makes one understand this. This is called self-blessing. Sequence means that it does not show rituals combined with activities, does not show the sphere of activity of inferior beings, does not mainly show the generation stage, does not show
