Now, this present awareness does not abide in the nature of the color white. Because no color such as red, yellow, blue, green, or variegated has ever been seen or established, it is emptiness. Similarly, in the essence of one's own awareness, there is not even a hair's breadth of anything established as a phenomenon with characteristics, nor is it seen. Therefore, it is emptiness by nature. As the Heart Sutra says, "The five aggregates should also be viewed as empty of inherent existence." And as the Self-Arisen Tantra says, "The way to realize the nature of reality is to know it in a state of non-doing. When you realize the meaning of unborn in this way, it is considered the view of seeing the nature of reality." And as the Wordless Tantra says, "That which has no view has nothing to be viewed. Without straying from the meaning of the view, there is naturally no viewing. It is neither existent nor nonexistent; abide in that nature." Thus it is said. Samaya. Third, what is the characteristic of the lamp? It is the characteristic of one's own awareness being inseparable from clarity and emptiness. That is, because this awareness has no self-nature, it is empty. And that emptiness is not a completely nihilistic emptiness; the essence of emptiness is awareness, naturally clear. Therefore, it has the characteristic of being inseparable from clarity and emptiness. From the aspect of the essence being empty, it does not fall into the extreme of permanence. From the aspect of the self-nature being clear, it does not fall into the extreme of annihilation. From the aspect of compassion pervading all and the essence being inseparable, it has the characteristic of transcending the extremes of permanence and annihilation. As the Tantra of the Blazing Lamp says, "In the great primordial purity, the very nature is like this: unmade by anyone, self-luminous, from the very beginning, it is self-nature." And as the Garland of Pearls Tantra says, "Empty-clear awareness, without change, is the characteristic of that essence." And as the Self-Arisen Tantra says, "Transcending the extremes of permanence and annihilation." And as the Self-Liberated Tantra says, "The stains of the four extremes are self-purified." And as the Perfection of Wisdom says, "Mind is no-mind; the nature of mind is luminosity." And so forth. Samaya. Fourth, the six divisions of the lamp are: 1. The lamp of the ground of reality, 2. The lamp of the citta-flesh, 3. The lamp of the white, soft channels, 4. The lamp of the far-reaching water, 5. The bardo

Five, the lamp of time, and six, the lamp of ultimate fruition. Samaya. Fifth, the six definitive terms of the lamp are: Just as all sentient beings are pervaded by the intention of the Dharmakaya, like oil pervading sesame seeds and milk, so it abides. If one realizes this, it is the basis for liberation of Kuntuzangpo; if one does not realize it, it is the basis for the delusion of ignorant sentient beings. Because one has not become a Buddha by realizing it, and one has not become a sentient being by not realizing it, the basis that does not fall to either side of samsara or nirvana, abiding in that basis, is called the lamp of the basis, called the universal basis, called the general basis, called the Tathagatagarbha, pervading all of samsara and nirvana. The Sutra of the Garland of Glory and the Lion says: "The Tathagatagarbha pervades all beings." And the Jeweled Array says: "In a sesame seed or a mustard seed, the oil is naturally and spontaneously present. In what appears as the body of a sentient being, the seed of the Tathagata appears with its corresponding light." And, all sentient beings are pervaded by the Dharmata of the basis of abiding, which is called the lamp of the abiding basis. Second, the lamp called citta-sha is that the meaning of abiding generally abides in the body, and especially abides in the heart. The Tantra of Introduction to Proliferation says: "The meaning is in the center of one's own body, in the heart abides great wisdom." As it is said. The Tantra of the Union of Bindus says: "In the center of the citta that remembers sentient beings, the three dharmas abide as the nature of mind." As it is said. The awareness abiding in the center of the heart is called the citta-sha lamp. Third, the lamp called the white smooth vein is the vein connecting the heart and the eyes, called the vein that purifies the senses of the root of error, which is one empty clarity without blood and serum inside, and is the path for the awareness to move. That is called the white smooth vein lamp. The Tantra of the Union of Bindus says: "The king of veins, with a crystal tube, abides within the sun and moon." As it is said. The Tantra of the Blazing Lamp says: "From the white conch-shell of the brain, there are three coils to the right, the vein is shaped like a ram's horn, the essence of all the elements gathers, manifesting to the objects of the senses, this abides within the vein." So it is. Therefore, the path of the movement of consciousness is called the white smooth vein lamp. Fourth, far
