While meditating, do not be distracted, rely on undistracted mindfulness; In the state of no meditation and no distraction, gaze intently; Self-aware consciousness, self-illuminating, clear and bright; That which arises is called Bodhicitta; There is no need to meditate, as it transcends the realm of the knowable; It is not distracted, as its essence is luminous by nature; Appearances and emptiness are self-liberated, luminosity and emptiness are the Dharmakaya; Not achieved through the path of enlightenment, but directly realized; Vajrasattva is seen at this very moment; The instruction that leads the ultimate to exhaustion is: Views differ greatly, though vast and numerous; For self-aware mind itself, self-arisen wisdom; There is no duality of object and subject of view; Do not look at the view, seek the one who views, the seer; If the seer himself is not found when sought; Then the view is led to exhaustion; The end of the view also reaches back to itself; On that which has nothing to be viewed by the view; Without falling into nihilistic emptiness; The present self-aware consciousness, clear and distinct; That is the view of the Great Perfection; Realization and non-realization, there is no duality in that; Meditations differ greatly, though vast and numerous; For self-aware ordinary consciousness, transparent and unobstructed; There is no duality of object and subject of meditation; Do not meditate with meditation, seek the master of meditation; If the master of meditation is not found when sought; Then meditation is led to exhaustion; The end of meditation also reaches back to itself; On that which has nothing to be meditated upon; Without being controlled by dullness, sinking, turbidity, or agitation; The present uncorrected consciousness, clear and distinct; Uncorrected, abiding in equanimity, that is contemplation; Abiding and not abiding, there is no duality in that; Actions differ greatly, though vast and numerous; For self-aware wisdom, the single bindu; There is no duality of object and subject of action; Do not act, seek the actor himself; If the actor himself is not found when sought; Then action is led to exhaustion; The end of action also reaches back to itself; On that which has nothing to be acted upon; Without being controlled by habitual tendencies and delusions; The present consciousness, uncorrected, naturally luminous; Without making any modifications, acceptances, or rejections; That is completely pure conduct; Pure and impure, there is no duality in that; Fruits differ greatly, though vast and numerous; For self-aware mind itself, the three kayas spontaneously accomplished; There is no duality of object and subject of attainment; Do not attain the fruit, seek the attainer himself; If the attainer himself is not found when sought; Then the fruit is led to exhaustion.

Yes! The ultimate place of the fruit is also that very thing. Because there is no fruit to be accomplished, without being swayed by acceptance and rejection, hope and fear, in the self-illuminating, spontaneously accomplished awareness of the present moment, the very realization of the self-illuminating three kayas is the fruit of primordial Buddhahood. This awareness, free from the eight extremes of permanence and annihilation, is called Madhyamaka because it does not fall into any extreme. Because awareness is continuous and uninterrupted, it is called awareness. Because it possesses the essence of emptiness and awareness, it is therefore named the Tathagatagarbha. If you understand this meaning, you understand the most excellent of all that is to be known, therefore it is called Prajnaparamita. Because it transcends the limits of the mind and is primordially free from extremes, it is therefore named Mahamudra. Merely the difference between realization and non-realization becomes the basis of all samsara, nirvana, happiness, and suffering, therefore it is named Alaya. In the state of uncontrived, ordinary, and free abiding, this clear and lucid awareness is named ordinary awareness. No matter how many beautiful and pleasing names are given, in reality, besides this present awareness, who would think that there is anything better than this? Like finding an elephant but still searching for its footprints, even if you call out to the three thousand worlds, you will not find it. Apart from the mind, it is impossible to find the Buddha. If you do not recognize this, even if you search for the mind externally, how can you find yourself when you are searching for others? For example, a fool in a crowd, because of watching the spectacle, loses himself. Similarly, not recognizing oneself and searching externally is also oneself searching for oneself, it is the same delusion. Because the true nature of phenomena is not seen, and appearances are not recognized as mind, one is lost in samsara. Because one does not realize that one's own mind is Buddha, nirvana is obscured. Samsara and nirvana are distinguished in a single moment merely by awareness and non-awareness. Because one sees one's own mind as external, one is deluded. Delusion and non-delusion are of the same essence, because the mindstream of beings is not dualistic, so the nature of mind, without alteration, is liberated by abiding in its own place. If you do not recognize that delusion itself is mind, then you will never realize the meaning of dharmata, so look at the self-born, self-arisen, self-illuminating. Where do these appearances first come from? Where do they abide in the middle, and where do they go in the end? When you look, for example, a crow in a pond, even if it flies from the pond, it is not separate from the pond. Similarly, because appearances arise in the mind, they arise in one's own mind and are liberated in the mind. The nature of mind is all-knowing, all-
